So far, the only hitch was getting our teamspeak server to connect to it. It required the following fix:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/old-client.html
Took me about 4 hours to figure that out... what a headache. :banghead: Hopefully posting this might save someone else the same trouble. Hopefully TeamSpeak might release a new version someday that uses newer mysql client libraries to avoid this, but they have been on RC2 for like the last three years or more... ::) so it doesn't seem likely.
The Xenocorp.net/SFC2.Net server is updated. I have yet to update the Dynaverse.net and game servers to it. We really need to consolidate the DBs to a single server to save me these multiple updates. That won't happen till we get a new box for the Dynaverse.net webserver, then we can make this one a dedicated db server for all of Xenocorp/Dynaverse.net.

Mmmmm... stored procedures... (possibly significant for the serverkit development).

Really? Thanks for letting me know.
Glad I waited to update.
Have you tried 1.1 RC1?
-
Actually, it seems SMF will be patching both 1.0.5 and 1.1 RC1 shortly! :woot:

I'm holding off 1.1 till its non-"RC" as I'm hestiant because of all of our mods anyway.

I've been running it for a couple months now, and have yet to find any bugs in SMF itself. I ran into a couple bugs porting it to mambo, but those were because I used older templates (it was a quick fix). The only bug I found was the package manager wasn't working too well iirc.

One word: Search.
SMF has yet to completely finish the search function. I understand they have made progress from 1.0.x but still have to disable it altogether quite frequently. A forum absolutley must have a working search function. (especially when the messages database is very large and there is a browsing load on the server).
P.S. I just took a quick peek at your site and got some error messages, ya might want to check it out if you're not currently working on it.

Search should be fixed over there now, they recently moved servers.

yes... i took it down maybe a year ago.
LOL
anyway, thanks... We're around 50,000 page refreshes a month currently, but we used to get around 100,000 before we changed sites... and gameservers... three times...

No doubt Bonk and Mr. Cue have gotten this already... but if not:
MySQL AB recently announced their fifth version of MySQL to be ready for production use. Version 5 comes with a lot of new features, like stored procedures, triggers, and views. As of MySQL 5.0.12, a few changes have been made in the precedence of table joins. This causes some pages of Simple Machines Forum to stop working.
Simple Machines is therefore happy to release a compatibility patch for both 1.0.5 and 1.1 RC1. If you or your provider are planning on upgrading their MySQL server to 5.0.12 or higher, you can easily patch your forum in one of the following ways:
- Use the package manager in your administration center - one click, and you're done.
- Download the modification file, attached to this message, and modify the files manually according to it.
- Download the modified files, also attached to this message and overwrite your current files with them.
Regardless of wether this patch is applied or not, SMF will install without a problem on a MySQL 5.0.12 server and the package manager will remain accessible.

Aye, i came over from YaBBSE almost on day 1.
I went, YaBB -> YaBBSE -> SMF
-
I used to use YaBB when I had my 15mb space on my 56k connection...
IIRC it was flatfile,r ight? No mysql.
-
Yup, the original YaBB was writen in Perl and used text files to store all its information.

yup. I made a couple mods for it. I have a few perl books still in the shelf :D

The Forge D2 server (ODIN) now updated to MySQL 5.
Just the Serverkit Development Testing / General D2 gaming server (THOR) remains.
-
Updating to MySQL 5 has broken registrations on SMF, even with the MySQL 5.0.12 compatibility update installed. Working on a fix...
-
Registrations fixed. Temporary fix posted on SMF's forums.
-
Note also that the SMF database needs a correction to get reminders to work on a strict MySQL 5 installation.
