N/T ;D

x800 woulda been a better buy. :P

For a few dollars more you could also get a nVidia 6600GT. I think that would be a better buy all the way around.

I think the x900 or the x950 would have been the best buy.

I have the 6600 in my laptop, if the X700 is close, you got yourself a good card

I am thinking of getting myself a new card, probably going to get at least a 6600, maybe a 6800. Currently running a FX 5900XT overclocked, it runs Half Life 2 fine on mostly high settings but is struggling with some of the latest games such as BF 2.

Both are generally good cards but the 6600~6800 can handle Shader Model 3.0 something ATI X700~X850 can't do.
Here is a quote from HardOCP (http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjY2LDEw) that conveys my thoughts in a very nice tight sentence structure:
X700 Vs. 6600
One thing is for sure, the GeForce 6600GT and the Radeon X700XT are very competitive products when it comes to overall gaming performance. If we had to edge out a card that offers up the better value we would have to lean towards the GeForce 6600GT at this point in time. In our two days of X700XT experience we saw it get held out of the top spot in terms of both framerate and image quality by the GeForce 6600GT. Keep in mind that the GeForce 6600 series also packs the performance potential of Shader Model 3.0 once games start using it.
Even though we are leaning heavily towards the GeForce 6600 series right now, by no means would the Radeon X700XT be a bad buy if they can get the IQ bugs ironed out. The X700 series is feature packed and can also accelerate long pixel shader instructions as well as having the possible hidden power of 3Dc compression. 3Dc does have a few games on the way with support.
If you can afford the nVidia 6800 then by all means pick one up, as it is a better card then either the X700 or the 6600GT.
