Tommorow night on D.net's teamspeak (teamspeak.dynaverse.net, password is sfcrulz) I'm looking for "new" players. I'm sure 6-8 instructor will show up as this always happens ;D
Games should be done with direct IP. You get to avoid the GSA loadout time, very useful when doing 20 battles in and evening.
OP 2552
OP+ 4.0
Battles should be mostly 1v1 with some 2v2 and lobsided fights thrown in for fun. D2 Loadouts will be in effect.
For the newest players, especially those coming form SFC3, we will be focussing on seeking weapons use and advoidance as this is probrably the most important skill in this game.
All are welcome, even Hexx

<sniff>
Truly it's great to be appreciated..
Probably a SQ, but since I'm sure it will come up-
is there anything one needs to know (beyond the basic IP address)
to host IP games?
-
Logged on For Training No ONe there. What a Rip!!!!!! >:(
-
Um, I said Monday. Last night was Sunday :P

yA, U GOTTA BE ON ts. OOPS CAPS
-
I don't have TS or any other 'talk' proggie yet. No headset, Can we arrange it on IRC or something like GSA ?? I'll get you tonight, Hexx.
-
Get it. Headsets are $10 at Radio Shack. TS is free.
You won't learn without voice comms.
-
I hesitate to say it, but I'm on dial-up. I dunno what kinda bandwidth TS needs, but I'd like to save all I can for the game.

Psssh! Won't learn without voice comms, or won't teach without voice comms? Back when this game started, voice comms was in its infancy. Back on MPlayer, we had chat and we did fine. I got most of my fleet training over chat as opposed to voice comms. And don't say it!
Be that as it may, perhaps there could be a lower bandwidth comms server set up. Can't the bandwidth be set both server and client side? Reduced audio quality, but it may be doable.
-
I *think* it uses a bit less bandwith if you just have
it on listen. And that's really the important one.
Or I could be completely mistaken and it uses the same amount.

Thankfully we've evolved beyond that. ;D
And yes TS can be tweaked to use lower bandwidth.

Yoiu're sort of right. the bandwidth is the same, but most people' have a more limityed upload so the percentace is higher.

Honestly, won't teach. Takes way too long to explain stuff in chat when you can say it.

T.S handles fine even on dail up. Yes, it can be tweaked to have to take even less bandwidth.
Get it here:
http://www.goteamspeak.com/downloads.php
There is also Ventrillo, which uses slightly less bandwidth, but the difference is marginal.
Get it here:
http://www.flame-instinct.com/clan-fi/ventrilo_2.14.exe
Once you downlaod the VT client, click this link to find the server:
ventrilo://66.23.219.58:3784/servername=CoalitionVoiceChat
VT is used most commonly by the Coalition on most servers, although many run both TS and VT at the same time.
I prefer VT for the voice quality and hotkey options (which I think are better), just MPO... ;D
To each his own.
But, it's a good idea to already have both, both for campaigns and training. ;)
That way you can go back and forth as needed.
Even if all you can do is listen, it's soooo much easier than typing while in game.
Not to mention, on D2, the teamchat doesn't work and everyone can see what you type. ;)
-
U can forget about me teaching anyone anything on text chat. Its hard enough in GSA to type what target to fire at and where to go with gubers not on voice... Cant imagine the complexities of captaining a ship AND explaining strat. Anyone that thinks they can is smoking something. Back in the day b4 TS, you had tactics seminars and Theory class. We just dont do that anymore... Get a cable modem if u cant get on TS. If you cant get a cable/dsl modem, you shouldnt be allowed to own a computer.

lol, touchy, touchy on the voice comms, hehe. I agree. Voice comms is pretty essential, although I remember debriefing a number of Starlance newbs that I killed with an anchor about what they did wrong. Probably my only SL wins, the rest I got lucky. Be that as it may, it sounds as if voice comms will be required for these sessions.
Also, I had played single player for some time before I even went to multiplayer, so I wasn't completely green. Hopefully, your new players will at least have a basic understanding of how to play with some offline experience.

On now, meet me on D.net's TS

Like to play a few games with ya.
I'm on TS, but no mic lol...
I can send messages inside TS, and chat in game. But that kinda counts me out if I MUST have a mic.
-
Okay, got TS installed, and found the login, but what are the passwords and other field entries I need to make to sign on? I keep getting an audible "error" message when I try to log on.
-
That was great! Thanks for games guys.
I hope to fly again with you later!

Connect to server under the local address book tab, right click and 'add' a new server profile. Then select an anonymous nickname and enter this: teamspeak.dynaverse.net into the Server address tab.

sorry bout last night guys, once I got TS connected to ya's and heard how it was breaking up I was tweeking it when my girlfriend came home and between dinner and my new pupy I got distracted. By the time I got back to the puter about 10pm everyone was leaving. I'll do better tomorrow (tonight). I just hate to leave TS bandwidth set to unlimited just so the comms don't break up, we'll have to see what It'll do ingame with my dialup.
