Such primitive methods end the subjects life too quickly.
The Agony Booth directly taps the Central Nervous System, keeping the subject alive for an indefinite period.
And of course...in extreme agony....MUWHAHAHAHA... ;D
Don't you Flatheads know anything...? :P

We know how to make really good rootbeer! :drink:
thoughts on rootbeer
Garak: It's vile!
Quark: I know. It's so bubbling, and cloying, and happy.
Garak: Just like the Federation.
Quark: But you know what's really frightening? If you drink enough of it, you begin to like it.
Garak: It's insidious.
Quark: Just like the Federation.

Thanks for posting that dialogue. It's one of my favorite scenes.

It also demonstrates to me why DS9 was so good.... and what Enterprise could have been. You know, B&B reportedly said in season 3 that they were sick of Trek and had no more ideas. Maybe if they had opened the doors to other writers, they could have quit and given us all a break....

Actually, in season four of Enterprise, they turned it over to a different producer who DID get good writers in. Star Trek veterans Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, for example. That's why Season 4 was so much better. Heck, I had just convinced several people to start watching it again when the announcement came through that Enterprise had been cancelled. It's a same, too. Manny Coto was going places with the show that last season.

Yeah..... but of course at that point it was dead anyway. I've been on to Manny Coto's forum, and the thing that everyone there agrees with is they wish he'd been there since season one. But at the same time, there was a regime change at Paramount that hated Trek, (the lawsuit from Activision shows how long Paramount hasn't given a damn about Trek), and suddenly they put a halt to the acceptance of Spec scripts that would have breathed life into the series. It was also (at some point I don't quite recall) landed in the hands of CBS....a network. I knew right then that it was doomed. The last time one of the big three networks had Trek they killed it. Star Trek is a syndicated show, and it always should be. You know, if you look at the first three seasons of TNG, DS9, and Voyager, none of them really got on their feet until the fourth season. But there was such a campaign against this one that it didn't have a chance. I got so mad at what they did that I put together my own group for Enterprise Virtual Seasons. We've gotten off to a slow start, but we're getting there. If you're curious, have a look at the first episode. http://startrekenterprisevirtualseasons.blogspot.com/
I think we've done a decent job of highjacking the thread..... ;D

The disclaimer,
Disclaimer: No matter how much Paramount, Viacom, and B&B abuse and neglect and generally make a bloody mess of Trek, and despite the fact that they seem to have intentionally stuck a knife in it's belly, technically they still own it. :)
says it all......
