Title: The Ninth Fleet
Post by: Braxton_RIP on December 11, 2005, 10:41:19 pm: Well, this is a hard post to make, since it involves something that has become a standard term amoung our community.

The 9th Fleet has been around for a long time, one of the oldest fleets around SFC at that, and today things will change.

Due to a difference in oppinions between members of the fleet, the old forums will be coming down. The fleet itself though will be countinuing on, nothing will be changed and the events of the past day will be forgotten. The fleet will continue on, as only a small number of our members have left. Frey has graciously agreed to play host to our forums, much to the excitement of our management. Hopefully, some time soon, we all will be able to plug in 9thfleet.com and find our fleet forums.

I would ask that this be something that we can all let pass, since some pretty prominent members of the fleet have left over this issue and difference of oppinion.

We will still be appearing on KCW and campaigns to follow. We will still be the Ninth.

I just felt the need to post this here in case anything might leak out into the open about what has happened. If at all possible, due to the confusion inside my mind and the minds of the other senior members, that should anyone know what might have been going on, to just keep it quiet.

Such controversy as what has happened is something that is unfortunate and, in hindsight, probably an error in judgement on all parties involved.

Reprisal is still our Fleet Admiral, and we are still the Ninth Fleet.

The Fleet lives on through others....and we try and pay homage to the legacy and uphold tradition.

Some peeps put fleet..before game...some peeps put game before fleet...for most people they are one in the same...

The KBF is an SFC fleet...and what I know of my brothers...it ALLWAYS will be so...

Sympathy ploy indeed...Some people have no respect for their betters.

Ryker and Braxton both have helped me learn how to fly and fly well. I may only have one PvP win, but where I've not learned how to win much, however badly, I've learned at least how to lose brilliantly, and while I'll probably never be a PvP ace, I've learned enough to begin holding my own against (or with) some of the best players this community has. It's unfortunate that some sort of petty bullsh*t has taken down the 9th Fleet forums. Hopefully you'll get new ones, soon.

I realize you're saying to yourself that this punk Fed pilot can't possibly be serious, but I want to warn you I trained with Dogmatix and KHH Ducky to learn to fly the Klink boats. It took 4 months to get the stink off, but after completing the laundry chore I found that defeating an enemy I understood became a matter of finding them and keeping them on the field of battle. In your case the only weapon I need is a long pointed object to let some air out of that 4 ton load you carry that you call an ego......Happy hunting grounds ;D

I know you're trying to be funny, and lighten the atmosphere, but this is something you should stay out of. Thrain and I have roots with the IX, you don't.

I wont bore you all with the details, but it seems a long simmering difference of opinion [unknown to most of us], coupled with a lack of communication, caused a couple of our leaders to declare the fleet dead. It seems some of the causes of this, were because we'd said we were flying Klingon in the upcoming Klingon Civil War campaign. And, being forced to fly races other than Fed, on Dynaverse 3 modded servers [for purposes of community and game balance].

These arent the only reasons I believe, but are the only ones I feel at liberty to discuss. As Braxton mentioned, its probably best that we just try and drive on, and get ourselves standing up again.

We're still here, and our primary mission is to have fun. Whether thats on D2 or D3, flying in a Klingon house or in command of a Federation starship, we're still here.

Our new forums should be up shortly, plus there are no plans to let this interfere with our commitment to the upcoming "Klingon Civil War" campaign. I cant speak for the rest of the guys, but I will fly whatever means we, as a team, have the most fun. We're still a Federation fleet at heart, so you Coalition guys dont expect any major "Dallas" style plot changes. ;D

However, despite being Federation in Role Play, and whenever possible on campaigns, we're a fleet thats here to enjoy ourselves. And, when all's said and done, thats what counts.

Look I wasnt going to post here because I considered this an internal matter between members of the 9th only..that being said I will continue to keep my nose out of your internal issues --

However I see there is a second thread about 9th and well I do have a quick two cents to add..

First off regarding 9th flying Klingon for KCW -- ummm if ya can get an old duck like me to fly FED -- which I did for Mirror Mirror then well you guys should be able to suck it up the same way I did and fly Klingon as well..

Secondly -- not to run down anyone else but I always considered 9th the most honorable and friendly of any Fed fleet out there.. My realtionship with 9th goes way way back to when KHH had the pleasure of being the opposition for 9th in the original SL campaign that never did get to finish -- as i recall they had a fleet of approx 44-45 ca/cc hulls going up against our combined fleet of approx 26-27 d6/d7 hulls -- we really missed out on some battle royals..
those were back in my dark days when I would really be insulting to the feds -- calling them every name in the book and to their credit 9th was always above my childish antics and never once got their back up at my insults.
Didnt take me long to really appreciate not only the skill but the players in 9th fleet -- ahh the glory days

So all I can say is this old Klingon hopes you guys can show up for the KCW and if any 9th fleet needs a house to fly for just let KHH know..

BTW if Reprisal is now your fleet admiral -- i got a few words for him as well..

You're right too. Those were "glory days". I still remember being one of the few flatheads the KHH would allow to hang out in the room on M-player. Hard to believe that was over 4 years ago. If Wanderer hasn't got other plans for me I'd love to fly with you guys again.

Ryker and Braxton have been doing very well in watching the flock the last few days. I haven't been able to express this properly, but I now take the opportunity to publicly say so. These two gentlemen have played a big part in what 9th Fleet is today. There aren't many of us old farts left, and it hasn't been easy evolving into who we are. There are several issues which have contributed to our momentary status, I think it a good opportunity to address some of these issues head on once we get settled in again. I won't go into any details, but let's just say I think it's time to get a few things in the open, and try to improve relations.

Shadowlord, aka Ducky (you know, I still don't know how he got that nickname!) actually brings up something which has been a concern. There's only 3 of us left who were around at that time- Clarky, Reprisal, and myself (back then I went by the handle "Dorrant"). I barely count myself in there, I was just a greenhorn Ensign then LOL. Oh, how the times have changed since then! Even so, I've tried to help maintain our standards since our old M-Player days.

The mindset within the D2 & D3 communities is very different, but then the circumstances are different. Each has evolved into a unique 'society', and knowing what is expected of you helps things to run a little easier. Obviously, there are going to be some hard feelings along the way- each can relay many occasions of that happening. But it's harder when you're involved on both sides of the coin. We're lucky to say we've been succesful in doing so, but it hasn't been easy. As long as the respect is there, it can be done. Despite that, there are still some misgivings, and that's one thing I see we need to work on. I have no doubt some of these misunderstandings can be corrected.

It has been my mission over the last year to oversee that we can not only work both sides, but even expand our horizons. I think that may be the biggest challenge, but as long as there's respect, and an open approach, we can succeed. It's a simple fact that some people are open to new ideas, and some people aren't. Or, just have a hard time trying. On the other hand, there's the fact that some people just can't let go, and when they finally do, it's either a smooth transition, very disruptive, or at worst, a destructive one. It all depends on how many pieces there are and who's left to pick them up and put Humpty together again.

As has been stated, we're doing pretty good :) I want you all to know I've missed taking part in the activities in the last few months- I've just been so busy with personal problems for the most part, plus a number of logistical issues within the fleet, namely building a new website, and a side project that's part of the makeover. As all you old farts know, it seems to be getting harder to find time to do so much LOL

I look forward to continuing to be a part of all this for some time to come!

BTW- Thrain & Ted, on behalf of the fleet, thank you for your support. I still consider you 'family' :) Long days & pleasant nights!

If only it was ten years ago and I was still at a CO, I would figure out a way to steal you Rep. Sadly, it isn't. As long as the Marines haven't changed since I saw them last, I expect you, as a Colonel (retired of course, but still a Colonel) to make it back in good order. In case I don't get to speak to you again before you ship out, good luck, remember to keep hydrated (I was over in '91... Lord, it is HOT), and always remember that you have the backing of everyone here. It gets lonely in the desert... even if there are another hundred thousand troops there with you.
