Sorry dude tried several times to export to 3ds no joy on each. You just got a bad model. But it looks cool

I managed  to fix it. I used one of the odd formatts rwl or  something (it created a 65000k file) and exported that back to  mod and it got rid of all the duplications.  Took me a while  to  find a  format that wouldn't  toss the textures  along the way. Then ofcourse I edited this post to  say it was fixed  but that apparently  didn't  work...thanks for trying anyways.
