Title: Already losing connection...
Post by: F9th0mega on January 20, 2006, 07:59:03 pm
well, title is self explanatory.

ive lost 1100 prestige already, everytime after a fight ive lost connection afterwards, solo or drafted, trying to do an action or waiting on my sorry butt for my prestige :(

any idea WHY this is happening? i have NO firewall running right now, running on my motherboards chipset's integrated lan, i COULD switch to the Gb lan but its finicky sometimes and id have to tell everyone in the 9th the TS IP changed lol

Thanks :(

Sounds like you are running a teamspeak server on the same connection you are playing from? Teamspeak servers are nasty bandwidth hogs and it may be interfering with your game connection. Are you behind a router? Is the MTU set? (if so, reset it to the default)

Try putting the KCW shiplist and fighterlist into the \MetaAssets folder to see if that helps.

Also ensure that you fully disable any anti-virus software while playing. (The norton privacy filter program is known to interfere and must be uninstalled entirely).

i AM running a teamspeak server but no one is on it and it doesnt seem to interfeere with anythign else :S

Post by: Bonk on January 20, 2006, 08:33:08 pm
Ah, if no one is on it, then it should not interfere.. its use only gets nasty when there is more than a few on it.

got rid of it and it didnt help anyway...

ka-bump? :(

Operations were moved to THOR (Xenocorp's Server) at noon eastern time today.   Try it now, different physical server so if it was an internet problem, this might have helped.

This problem will probably persist until you disable your AntiVirus and firewall programs. You can just run a full AV scan after you're finished playing each evening. Pretty sure you won't find anything. Its browsing the web that brings viruses, not playing OP. ;)

Also if you are running anything that resembles Kazaa or other P2P programs, for the love of god turn it off, better yet uninstall it and forget it ever existed.

Regarding Helkern... are you running a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 server? If not, then you do not need to worry about it.

I think you are running a cable connection and have no router if I remember correctly.  I have AntiVirus running with OP.  It makes no difference for me.  I also used to be able to run OP with software firewall enabled.  Be that as it may, I'd check to make sure that you are not running TS on one of the ports that OP needs.

correct lepton, ive tried disabling my AV, put the shiplist and ftrlist in meta assets, went into a fight with no hope of winning and died, nothing different. for now all i have to say is ive had a bad enoguh day as it is... :(

and lepton ive tried without TS running so yea...

just made a new character as well and it did sh*t all :(

and Bonk, i use bittorrent... would that do anything? ive got it running right now but its going slow... meh ill try it

ka-bump again...

I tried killing BT but it did nothing... And i just remembered i could play fine on the test server IIRC... :(

this sucks :( i cant get anything but i cant lose my ship or resources either...

If need be Omega, turn off the TeamSpeak system. For the duration of KCW we'll probably be on the Dynaverse.net server anyways, and I'd rather have a friend flying than a TS system up that is dormant for the time being :)

already tried that ryker, had no affect what so ever... :( this is driving me insane, i can flip hexes and everything, all the server side results are kept, but my stuff just doesnt <_< no damage incurred, my ship can be destroyed and i just get it back, none of my resources are expended... all this leads to a very pissed off klingon <_< lol

A few things:

Have you edited your shortcut to the game to point to StarFleetOP.exe and added the correct "Start In" parameter?

Are you flying solo missions or being drafted?

Try the atttached NWMissionConfig.scr (unzip and place in \Assets\Scripts)

anyone willing to try a PvP? just warp out when we get in?

Also, make sure there are no apostrophes in your character name. (think DOS filenames, upper and lowercase letters, numbers and the underscore character, thats it.)

I suspect you may be missing the attached file (not actually a mission, but required client side for NW scripts to work). Unzip it and place the .scr file in \Assets\Scripts.

If you have the shiplist switcher, you could go to Gamespy and try and get in a 3 v 3 and see how that holds.  If you can run a 3 v 3 on gamespy, let us know, that is a clue..

ok well im still having the problem after a reinstall...

if i pile a bunch of battle report shots into a zip and send ti to an admin can i get prestige? :)

This problem does not extend to playing with other players. I have done so with enemy and friend in KCW. It is a server update problem. It does not register the effects of battle on the account. Note that it does register hex ownership change if other players are involved.

Not sure if this has been tried, but, could you start up another account in the Dyna under same house as you were and see if the same problems persist.
Title: Re: Already losing connection...
Post by: F9th0mega on January 23, 2006, 06:01:23 pm
already tried.

anyone mind if i try there house rather than mine really quick just as a test?
Title: Re: Already losing connection...
Post by: Dfly on January 23, 2006, 06:05:26 pm
I am sure no house would mind provided it is for a test only.  House of D'Emons would not mind if anyone had to test their system.

Can you run hijackthis and post/PM the output so we can see every process running on you PC?

would you let me connect via VNC to troubleshoot?

Father Ted seems to have a similar problem.

He can log onto the server and draft or be drafted, but when the mission closes, he is loses connection to the server.  No points earned.  This happens if there is more then just a few people online.   You should hear the happiness if he actually stays connected and earns points !  ;)

That's three now, I wonder what you all have in common... tricky...

Try disabling all messenger apps when you play. Exit winamp too... it phones home to AOL regularly ever since nullsoft sold it to them.

i dunno if this is related but somehow the kcw campaign has been a bit more unstable than the sg05 and the ammount i played on aotk2. i crashed a couple of times last night, never happened in op before to me though  :o

would that stability updater help out at all? or is it included in op+ 4.0?

Possibly, I am running it myself without any problems *but I backed up the root of my op folder first" as these are newer dll versions that the client was not actually compiled against. I have some doubts but it seems to work OK.

does the stability updator have any side effects, like blurry vision or anything like that?

No need for a screenshot if that's what you mean by SS.

I have a suspicion about some recent changes, it will have to wait until Frey gets my latest PMs.

I'd suspect this is a client issue, not a server issue.

We had over 20 players online last night running missions over and over again with no issues.

If this was a situation being seen at the time having only a few players online, then the more players would cause the issue to increase.

I'm sorry, but I don't think it's a server issue.

One thing to try is to have Omega create a account that he can reproduce this on, then PM the account / PW to someone who DOESN'T have the problem, have them log in and try to reproduce. That would pretty quickly determine if it's a account issue, or a client side issue.

That's a dang good idea, but his connection may be interacting with the directory and dynaverse server in a way that others do not, which was not previously a problem.... uh if that makes any sense, I'm starting to confuse myself... lol. He does fine when the server is run on DH's machine, which points to a server issue.

Thanks for piping in on this one, I'm just about out of ideas.

No problems, I see what you were saying - so Capt. Jeff can play if there's NOT a lot of players on, but when the serverload increases, then he get's "disconnected"...

Either way, the server itself hasn't been modified over the last several months, except for the development work - perhaps that's another thing that's different Bonk?

We do have an awful lot of development tools on THOR now....

Otherwise, I will try to check into this today and see if I can reproduce it.
