I returned to chess in 2005 after a ten year absence, and the first year was a rude awakening. I got pummeled. I had lots of work to do to get better.
So I was at a tournament in Oklahoma City, and had my best performance in 15 years. I was ranked 24th out of 31 players, but finished 11th, and won a class prize, increased my rating by 123 frackin' rating points(that does not happen in chess), and moved up a class in the process.
The crosstable is at http://www.uschess.org/msa/XtblMain.php?200601299731-12407847
and I'm player number eleven on the crosstable.
I expect to be online tonight.
Go me!

Great JOB MAZ.
I played years of chess and did quite well but never went to tourneys past highschool.

WTG Mazz. It's been quite a few years since I played chess, and even then never in a tournament level.

nOW IF YOU ONLY COULD FLY AS GOOD AS YOU PLAY CHESS... oOPS CAPS. ;)

I played chess and board wargames in high screwl. I was better at the wargames, because my teachers quit trying to beat me at chess. Usually it was Civil War by Victory Games, but we once did Empires in Arms by Avalon Hill(they let me play the Russians, bad mistake). That is a server all its own.

Im a HUGE board game freak when it comes to the Gerrman WW2 battles of operation barbarosa. Even early from 1933... if the game has modeled a preperation for war with control over political, economical and military functions, I flip. And I've played a few that came close. But one computer game snuck by me (didnt have one at the time) that focused on just that... You control Germany from the start, completely, and are able to do all the what if;s. But I cant for the life of me remember what the computer game was called...
Anyone know?

Nice Placard.... Only played casually when I was younger but just couldn't get beyond 3 to 4 MB 6 moves ahead in my head and then it never seemed to pan out

I think Kurok has your answer. Of all the WW2 boardgames I played, the Russians inevitably won, unless there was absolutely zero talent on the other side of the table. Only Allied General had the odds stacked against the comrades, and once you figured that one out, it was bye-bye Fritz.

GJ, Maz.
Put a Klingon Trifoil in the middle of the knight...make a cool House symbol. ;)
