Greetings to the Modelling Community at large! I am Jaeih, and I have a request to make of you able-bodied (computered?) ship-builders.
Despite MP's data in a different thread (thanks, MP), I've been unable to track down the ships I'd like, so I'm putting out the call again for anyone who has these ships or who would build them for me. Now, as you look at the schematics, I know you'll think, "there's one already like that", or "why don't you just use this one." Forgive me for being a perfectionist, but these are the ones I want, exactly as they are. Everyone loves doing minor variations on Constitutions, so please humour me. *smile*
If you could find the time within your hectic lives, could someone please build me this ship:
Santee-class Escort Carrier (CVE/CLV):

Let me know here if you can do this, and if you have WIPs feel free to post them here. I am most eager to see any you might make. Thanks in advance for any effort you make on my behalf.

Another nice ship. I agree, lets get these built.

OK, I like this one...I'll give it a go, kinda stuck on my hi-poly wip. :P A couple of notes...this looks like an upgrade to me...late pre-TOS/early-TOS primary married to a TMP secondary. Also, do you possibly have a rear shot of it? Kinda ambiguous(sp?) as too the neck and pylons. Either way, I'll start playin' with it tomorrow, should have a mesh in a few hours. ;)
-
Hey, why not start with a tos hull (change neck and disk) move to the one shown, and then a full tmp refit? Then you'd have a whole liniage there to play with.
-
Thanks, Sandman! I really appreciate you making the attempt.
Unfortunately, these are the only pics I could find for this (and my other reqested) ship(s). Looking at the ship in its entirety, though, you should notice that the only TMP aspect of the ship is the nav deflector, all other sections, including the secondary hull proportions and construction, is pure TOS. The class' own design history has these ships as being converted neutronium fuel carriers, so they are new construction as of a couple of years after The Four Years War (so the ships are probably completed in 2254 and the 2264 date given is a typo). The external superstructure remains the same until the class is decommissioned, with only the Nav Deflector being upgraded in 2263-65.
This is because in 'The Ships of the Star Fleet' from which this ship is an addition to, the new 'embedded'-style Nav Deflector was introduced around 2265 in the Achernar sub-class of the Constitution line. The Achernar herself (as completed in 2263) has a TOS deflector dish, but the subsequent ships (from 2265 onwards) have this new deflector. However, 'The Ships of the Star Fleet' timeline is rather out of sync with the rest of Canon Trek, as they have the "Vejur" crisis in 2267.
As for a rear shot, I'm sorry. Like I said, these are the only pics I have of her, but on close examination the rear or the dorsal neck looks to be vertical with an overhanging impulse engine, or possibly with an acutely-angled flying buttress coming from that vertical neck to support the underside of the impulse deck. As you can see, the rear of the secondary hull is quite wide for the shuttlebays.
Hope this helps and informs some.

Upgrading just the deflector grid makes no sense to me personally. I say go with a TOS deflector and not worry about it. BUt with Early TOS and late TOS early TMP parts, it really doesn't make much sense . Again that's just me.
-
Yes, I'd say makethe ship with a TOS nav deflector. The ship is obviously TOS and it just looks slightly off having one section of it TMP'ed.

Not if it was damage, or used as a test vessel, during the time these hulls were produced.

LOL now your grasping bro. ;)

Food for thought: Do you really believe the entire Starfleet was simultaneously modernized in the early-2270s along with the U.S.S. Enterprise? Instantly the shiny red/pink bussard collectors and round engines dissapeared and more-compact engines appeared along with bigger warp grilles and dishes instantly becoming integrated and that it glows blue?
I personally believe this was a product of the late-2260s/early-2270s as likely a rushed design, perhaps, putting some modern tech in it but mainly sticking to tech that worked for Starfleet in the past decade.

Well, it shouldn't be too hard to do both versions, TOS and TMP deflectors. Didn't get a chance to start yesterday...my oldest is a teenager and 'nuff said. ::) :P
-
I just got through being one four days ago. ;)
Anyhow, I didn't mean to imply you should bend over pressure and do it in someone else's image. If you don't have to and don't want to, don't. Make a purely-TOS one if you want. It doesn't matter, at least as far as I'm concerned. Mainly because you're the one making it, I'm not.

Happy B-Day!!! ;D :drink: :drinkinsong:
No, it's ok...really it's an easy thing to do. Ten minutes work at most. ;) I was thinking of doing it anyway...c'mon, you know I'm a TOS/pre-TOS guy. ::) ;D I'd have done it anyway for my own purposes so... :drink: ;D

I do like this design a lot (more then the Orginal Constitution actually) and have copied the Image for Future design considerations of my own model projects. :)
I actually like the TMP Deflector Dish on this design more then a TOS dish. But if someone is going too make a model of this, why not make two versions of it? One with TOS Dish, another with TMP Dish.

Bump for Kinghippo.
King, I'd love to see this ship in my game, as well as a few others which I'll bump for you. Sandman is currently working on this one, though, and is doing pretty well with it. See his USS Santee WIP post.

you;'re aware someone already has a wip of this right?
-
Yes, I do, Starforce. I said as much in th main post. I just thought a little healthy competition would be good to have. Design competition for a ship, just like in real life.
-
Speaking of design competition, about 3 years ago, this board use to have huge competition over the best Connies and and a few other TMP designs. It was really producing some VERY high quality ships at one point, unfortunetly, the poly counts on a few of them made them almost impractical to actually play in SFC. ::)
You don't see too much of that anymore.
