STFU!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!
Ok, sorry... ummm...
Seriously.....
Does anyone have a clue as to why I cannot type my cd key, for Orion Pirates, in the box provided for the cd key?
My keyboard works on everything else.

Hit the escape key then after the game has shrunk to the task bar left click on it and when it reopens KB should be back.
-
Find StarFleetOP.exe in the installation folder, copy it, paste it as a shortcut on the desktop, then use only that shortcut to start the game. (Installing OP+4 will also correct the existing shortcuts)
-
Thanks, got it working.
OP installed... check
CD key working.... check
Direct X thingy.... check

I'm behind a Linksys and I'm getting the firewall message.
Gonna try again with my Bellsouth firewall turned off before messing with the router because I don't know how to mess witht he router. :-*

Rollling ..
I dunno why the problem exists ... only that it does. ( Sorry but I know nothing of the tech-no-bable to explain ) ..
however the only solution I have found so far is to access the ship list .. (usually in the single player custom skirmish mode) then minimize the game ... using the "windows" key usually works best. Often time doing this process outside of the selecting a ship will not work. Again .. I dont know why .. and will not suggest that for some that the new patch does not resolve this problem. I have simply found that after loading the game .... I go straight to the single player custom skirmish ... and go straight to selecting a ship .... so I can get into the ship list. At that point minimize as we have mentioned. After that you should be able to restore the game ... give it a few seconds ... and you should be good to go.
Please note: .... I can not even set "hot keys" as the key board (as you say) is not operating.
One you have preforemed the afore mentioned task ... everything is as it should be. You can then set hot keys ... etc.
Additional note: This is not ment to be argumentative for those of you who don't have this problem. It seems like it started after the last patch ... and or about the time XP came out ... It's been so long ago that I have frankly forgotten WHEN it took place. Only that some of us still have to deal with the problem even with all the current DL's.
thanks

Ok, I disabled the firewalls and tried the "OlBuzzard Maneuver" had an interesting result.
After going to "single player", "skrimish", going back to "multiplayer", my game would not show the "evil firewall message" BUT neither did it ever show the "create account" button, AND it would not respond to the "Back" button.
I have to "Alt, Ctrl, Delete" it.
Interesting... so the "OlBuzzard Hokie Pokie" does shake things up a bit. I will be messing around with this some more!
Anybody know anything about Linksys?

heheh ... not surprising. I've had that happen once or twice ... ya might not have been in the right part of the skirmish:
1. after single player: select skirmish
2. once in the next screen look just above " play game" and select "customize"
3. in the next screen "Advanced Custom Skirmish" look in the upper left hand section of this page "select your fleet" then click on "select"
At this point "Choose Vessel" should be at the top of the screen.
I'm well aware of the fact that you will recognize this screen when you see it .. but if ya dont get to this exact screen before minimizing ... it will NOT work.
I usually let it set for a few seconds before "restoring". And YES .. it does take a few seconds .... ( more like as much as 45 seconds to a minute) for it to "pop back up". Now click "done" just like you would normally do after making a ship selection.
Hey .. dont laugh .. this has worked consistently now ever since this latest "patch" has came out. And it works for the rest of the night on a server ,... even if ya CDT. Once ya shut down for the evening .. yes .. you will probably have to jump through the same hoops each time ya fire up the game.
At any rate... I've wasted enough of your time ..
For what ever it's worth ... good to see ya around Kimberly

I have to "Alt, Ctrl, Delete" it.
Myself and a couple of others had this problem with non appearing buttons, the answer ended up being patience. Had to wait nearly 10 minutes for that button to appear the first time. Eventually it did and appeared normally after that.

Yeah, I had consider that I might was being hasty so I left it on all night. LOL!!!

If you're behind a linksys router none of that will help.
You need to set your PC to be in the DMZ while playing or configure your PC for a static lan IP and forward ports 47624 TCP, 2300-2400 TCP & UDP to your PC. In either case make sure to set the router to allow pings from the WAN. (and disable UPnP)
Port forwarding is the more secure solution.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/240429
You also need to make sure that the Windows XP firewall is disabled while playing on the Dynaverse, as well as any other software firewalls that might be installed.
If you are running McAfee you need to disable/uninstall the privacy service thing as it interferes for some unknown reason.
The linksys configuration page can usually be found by entering http://192.168.1.1 (http://192.168.1.1) in the address bar of your browser. Usually the initial username is admin with no password. (local access only).
If you have not read the manual for your router yet, then do so. (not the quickstart guide, but the full user's guide)
Also, you might find this site useful: http://www.portforward.com
If all that is too much to absorb, you can always just connect directly and bypass the router when playing on the dynaverse.
If you are wondering why you do not need to do this for other games, it is because the Dynaverse is somewhat unique in that not only must you be able to see the server unobstructed but also all other players who login, which cannot possibly be known in advance. Once a multiplayer mission in underway, the server has nothing to do with it, you are connecting directly to other players, without the server acting as an intermediate, unlike other games like Quake or BF1942 or the like, where the server is always the go-between.

I'm going to start banning IP's with peeps with firewalls that cause drops on SG servers. Be warned.

Its a SOFTWARE FIREWALL configured to where I can play online w/o any problems.
Or do you want me to configure my router to really mess you up. ;D

You never get drops from missions or host left messages? :skeptic:
-
Actually, in as much as firewalls can and sometimes do cause problems with some connections on Dyna, I have found more problems with people that have known issues with certain modems, and especially people with KNOWN router issues. I have virtually never crashed out with someone in a 1v1 Dyna, even when that person has connections issues with nearly everyone else (shin for example before he got cable). I have however had drops when some people get drafted who have router or other issues.
Do having firewalls off help? Sure it can.
Do Routers cause more problems than firewalls? I bet they do.
Are both correctable? yes------->unfortunately they are not both easily correctable. One merely needs a single turn off, the other often requires downloads and a lot of resets of settings that most people who have comps are unable to either understand or do.
In a perfect gaming world these issues would be non-issues. Here, they count. As per having admins forcibly drop players from flying due to having possible issues right from day 1, well that will obviously force a few more pilots off dyna(due to the boot) and quite likely a couple more just because of the boot. If an admin gives the boot to a known problem pilot with connectivity issues during a dyna after fair warning, ok, but if he is going to threaten to boot immediately reguardless, that will have a negative effect on the community as there are so few of us left.
Just my 1.72 Canadian cents.

Is the conversion ratio that bad nowadays?

You can get a new IP in less than 24 hours if you want.rofl

dialup, a new IP every time you log in.

So you'd rather cling desperately to your software firewall, adversely affecting mission stability for yourself and anyone who is in missions with you? Good to know...
dialup, a new IP every time you log in.
It is entirely possible to block the entire range of the DHCP pool that you are in. It is extremely unlikely that any other players are in it as well.
I fail to see why people want unstable missions and lots of player drops, failures to connect, and host left messages. Why would you want to knowingly make the game less playable? I'm completely baffled by this. Maybe I'll never understand...
Can anyone explain to me why they like having unstable dynaverse missions?
-
In the years that I did play SFC I was never in a stable mission due to dial-up.
I am interested in seeing how it responds now.
Take care!!!
-
Wow, didnt realize u were dial up. Im so glad you got your firewall issue fixed. Cant wait to see ya on the dyna. I might even make an appearance on the forge to wing with ya! :rwoot:

Jeese, that would have been to easy. Back when my wife was Dealing with Cancer, I had rented this house, which was built in the late 1890's. Of course It needed a paint job. Aparently, my sanding and the Old Paint, left Lead/Mercury/My Bad temper, etc. there.
Thank god at the time, It was just me there, and today, a few years later, The wife is fine, My Brain somewhat works, and I've quite a bad habit of drinking.

Glad your wife is doing better, I remember her going through that.
There are some heavy metal detoxs you can do. It will also detox the mercury you accumulated during your childhood vaccinations.
I would highly recommend it immediately!!!
-
OH Trust me I did Kim. I went for a solid month and Did this IV thingie. But It's all good now. The wife is also doing great, I'm just waiting right now to have a new Grandchild via my Daughter. I can hardly wait to say the least.
