Trek Franchise to start again in 2008... and rumours say its gonna be a pre TOS starfleet Academy movie ;)
Oh and I am posting this in the modelling section . . . because . . urm . . I will make a model of the first ship we see in the movie or summat.... think that justifies everythin..... :police:
-
Starfleet academy? So, this will be a whole series based on what exactly, a bunch of pimply faced Wesly Crusher and redsquad characters? That wont last even as long as enterprise.
-
yep ;D
but not a sieries a film, a trilogy infact ;)
-
You know... I had a feeling they would be announcing something.. Did not expect a film though :tonybanks:. Hope it all goes well!
-
:'( Oh god something else they can totally screw up. The pain shall never end :banghead:

I hear ya. I'm happy they haven't shelved Trek permanently, but...this...ummm...
1: Kirk and Spock meeting in the Academy. Practically throws the developed character relationships from TOS out the window. Their first deep space mission? So...we're gonna have to watch them as cadets/ensigns get their Captain coffee? Or watch the viewscreen?
2: The sets. Resolution has improved. Production design has changed. They want people to sit through 60's plywood looking sets and low detailed ships for probably at least 90 minutes.
3: Chronicles of Riddick was supposed to be a trilogy...yeah...I think Star Wars owns the space sci-fi trilogy patent. It's the only recent one that's worked. And even it faltered in the prequel trilogy.
::ALCHEMIC QUESTION::
Which one is the "new" Obi-Wan? The cannonically Older Alec Guiness Obi-Wan, or the younger Prequel Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan?
I hate to be a naysayer, but I have the same problem with this as with Enterprise. Star Trek is partly about exploring the unknown...I already know how the destinies of Kirk and Spock play out, and their fates. It's time to wind the clock forward again, I guess that's why I'm looking forward to STO so much. 20 years into the future, the AGT era. Once again into the unknown.
These movie(s) are probably gonna suck IMHO.

Interesting line up though for the producers and that..
And I for one am just happy to see that trek is still alive in the big world and not just in these forums
I actually though enterprise was great and bought them alll.... granted it messed up loads with the history and everything else... but It was still a great show I thought anyway... especially "through a mirror darkly" an awsome episode..
So I embrace whatever they throw at us with open arms.. long live trek ;)

Kirk and Spock meeting in the Academy
Hmmmm sounds EXACTLY like the second TV series that never happened. WTG Paramount you're gonna F**K it up again. I think I'm gonna be sick. >:(

I agree with you markyd totally....
God theres no pleasing some of you... Lighten up!

you all don't want a "cadet" movie... trust me i'm a cadet... i know a cadets life is uninteresting at best.... i don't think that'll change in the future....
-
2008? Too long. I want it late 2006 or early 2007.
-
Rofl... :)
Yeah but a trilogy.. so they will start as being kiddyets ;D (no offence TUS ;)) and then turn into all time greats :)
I wonder who they could get to play kirk..
-
Lol.... they should get Jim Carrey to be kirk.. he does a mean Shatner impression
-
rofl.. like the swimming pool scene im "Ace Ventura" :D
Im gonna think of a modern day cast line up and get back to you... ;D
-
Not to disrespect Jim Carrey's talents as an entertainer, but him playing Kirk? *shudders and shakes his head* It would go from drama to slapstick comedy in a matter of moments.
Although, now I wonder who they'll cast as young Spock and Scotty.

Could prove worthwhile.
It all depends on the screenplay and story line. Hollyweird is sorely lacking in great writers.
They will also need to remember the chemistry between the main characters. This is what endeared Trek to so many.
Remember Roddenberry's dream and go with it.
