Title: Resistance is futile......
Post by: Raven Night on April 27, 2006, 03:23:03 pm
Some shots of the Borg ships I am working on....I might button these up and release then since it would not take too much work to finish them. I left out the B type because it still needs alot of work, and this is a work in progress, though the sphere is pretty much done. Comments welcome.

texture work is great... really good.. if you have made them from scratch man that is awsome work...

If I can be a bit nit picky though.. I feel the meshes themselves lack depth.... granted SFC will not really notice unless up close... but these gorgeous models could just do with a bit of LUMPINESS to make em perfect.

Raven you are a busy man and im impressed man.... where is all this comin from... you must be a squid or somthing and have seven laptops to produce the amount of work you are in the quality it is in  :)

keep it up..... and drink some red bull  :D

Yes, depth is a problem....in the case of the cubes, I needed to show alot of them on screen, hence the 8 polys and 512 textures....in one scene of infinity there are over a dozen on screen, and you have to escape them. That is why I made them flat cubes and tried to put the depth in the textures.

As to the green cube, it is the beginning of the early TNG cube....I still have to add the yellow branches to it, sofar I am not happy with the many attempts at doing so.

Thanks for the comments and kudos...the reason I can do so many models is that the meshes have been ready for quite some time, just had noone to texture them...now that I can texture, I can finish them up myself. You should see anywhere from 20 to 30 models from me by years end.

My impression of the TNG Cube was black and yellow-ish as far as hull color, and the lights in the depths of that cube are perhaps green, maybe another shade of green, yellow, blue, and I think that's it, perhaps more.  I cite TrekCore for examples:

"The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1 [TNG] - Screenshot 01 (http://tng.trekcoremedia.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=73&pos=326)
"The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1 [TNG] - Screenshot 02 (http://tng.trekcoremedia.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=73&pos=333)
"The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1 [TNG] - Screenshot 03 (http://tng.trekcoremedia.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=73&pos=456)
"The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1 [TNG] - Screenshot 04 (http://tng.trekcoremedia.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=73&pos=503)
"The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1 [TNG] - Screenshot 05 (http://tng.trekcoremedia.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=73&pos=522)
"The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1 [TNG] - Screenshot 06 (http://tng.trekcoremedia.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=73&pos=538)

Just to cite some examples.  Anyhow, although the cubes "lack depth", they're still as good (if not better) than the SFC1-Modding-era's Borg ships as far as detail quality goes, although that wouldn't stop me from using 'em.  You're not doing bad so far.

Are there any pics of current borg cubes I can look at? If this work is that subpar, I will have to improve it.

TrekCore (http://www.trekcore.com/) has screenshots of most of the Trek episodes and movies thus far, so you can have a look at them, ranging from the Borg's only appearence on DS9 (http://ds9.trekcore.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=1) ("The Emissary" [DS9]/DS9's pilot episode) to First Contact (http://movies.trekcoremedia.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=77) or the common appearences of the Borg on Voyager (http://voy.trekcore.com/gallery/).

Do you have some samples you could post? I would love to see them.

It would be nice for someone to make a Locutus Cube model.
Just 10% larger than the Standard SFC cube.
