Title: Finally took "firefox" plunge
Post by: FPF-DieHard on May 01, 2006, 06:23:23 pm
Very nice application, stable, seems faster than IE.   IE security "issues" were never a problem to me but it's nice to be on something a bit more secure . . .

What functionality is lost over IE beside the 100% compatibilty of Active X contorls?   Just want to know if I'll be missing anything.

IE 7 Beta looks good BTW, they seemed to have stolen a lot of good stuff from Firefox :)

Can't think of anything. I don't miss activex one bit, "drive-by" spyware and virus installs are a thing of the past.

The main things I like about Firefox are its graceful handling of compressed content and ability to render 24 bit pngs with transparency properly. (And tabbed browsing of course, can't do without it now...)

Oh, and the Flashblock (http://flashblock.mozdev.org/) extension rocks!  :rwoot:

I haven't been using any extensions myself but that one may just lure me in.

I stopped using IE at 5.xx under Win98SE when an update took away my internet connection.  Fortunately I had a current backup and restored to the prior days setting.  I switched to Mozilla and never looked back.

The ability to use extentions is one of the best parts of Firefox and I have several that I just can't do without now.  Every once in a great while I'll run into something that doesn't work well with Firefox that I have to open up in IE, but those are very scarce now, and I can just use the "open in IE tab" extention to open them up in IE in Firefox.  That way I don't have to deal with another browser window and I can still use my customized Firefox interface.

I installed the IE 7 beta last night and I have to say that I hate the way the screen lays out, and the fonts are blurry, compared to IE6.  On a visual scale of 1-10, I'd rate it hideous.

Yea, but why in the hell would you install a microsoft beta product on your machine?
