Has anyone ever been able to change the names of ranks on the D2?
On a whim, I wanted to chang the rank names on the D2. So instead of Ensign, you'd start as "Newbie". Instead of Captain, you'd become "Stuck Up Stickybeak". Instead of "Admiral", you'd be "Nutter".
There are entries in the Score.gf file that give the score needed to reach each rank, and the text name for each rank. While I'd never messed with the latter, it seemed simple enough. Change Ensign="Ensign" to Ensign="NewName" and you are all set, right?
No.
No matter what I change it to, the rank of my ensign character remains Ensign.
Anyone ever been able to do this?

Nope, never messed with that one...
Looking at the serverkit source it appears to be hardcoded in the metaclient so that right clicking a player will show the default ranks. (since the client does not have access to the server gfs this makes sense)... there are notes that it should be moved to the strings file, but it seems it has not...
However it appears that in the mission score procedures it does actually use the gf settings, so the custom ranks may appear in the news for promotions and in mission debreifings etc...

I figured that was going to be the case; sort of like Empire names. You can change the name of the empire in the tensions message when you right click on the hex, and the name in the news, but the official name next to the hex number remains fixed.
Hmph! Oh well, there goes that little idea for pirate flavor. Thanks for checking for me, Bonk! I'll just have to make do.
