Title: Multiple IE windows
Post by: NJAntman on May 08, 2006, 05:21:50 pm
Yes, its time for one of those duh qustions. How do I open multiple IE windows?

Whenever I open my mail form the ISP home page the mail portion opens in a new IE window whilst the original window stays open at the home page. I can surf the net in both. Some web pages do this as well. BUT, when I open a web page and then try to open another IE window from say a desktop shortcut, the already opened IE window just dumps it site and displays the desktop shortcut's content, no second window.

How do I get around this? I have a set of IP cameras that display using an offline IE page, but any attempt to open my ISP page (which uses IE) for surfing or vice-versa concurrentlly can't work. I would like to be able to have the camera displays open (in an IE window) while the internet is up in a seperate window as well.

From a link: right click and "open in new window".

New windows for desktop shortcuts in IE: Tools ... Internet Options ... Advanced Tab ... Browsing section ...uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" ... Apply ... OK ...

Voila! (in IE 6 anyway)

Might take an IE restart... (close all IE windows then open IE and double check the setting took).

Or you can just say File...New...Window (or CTRL-N) and I think IE will reuse the latest window if set to reuse windows for shortcuts...

I prefer 'shift-click' so I can choose whether to open a new window or not....
