Caught this guy (and released him) in the backyard when I was cutting grass. What cracked me up is when my wife grabbed him up by the neck, he flattened his head to make himself look like a pit viper.. it was hilarious.
He was about 24" and gave off a nasty musk when handled.
BTW, that gray snake I mentioned? Still haven't figured it out, but I have it narrowed down to a Great-plains rat snake, a Western Massasauga, a Texas Night Snake, or a Great Plains Ground Snake. I'm leaning toward a Massasauga, though a gray-colored prairie rattlesnake would fit the bill too.

Dracho, you lucky son of gun! ;D I would love to catch one and I'd probably release him as well. Those snakes do a number on insects. You can't have enough of them IMHO!
My corns do the same thing. I thought they were going to bit me until I realized they were scared to death and rattling their tales to sound like a rattlesnake. I wonder how they picked up that trick???
I still think you ought to get rid of that snake of yours. There is a world of difference between rat snakes and rattlesnakes.

I've not seen him yet this year, and I just sold my house today!
