What are the effects of an ion storm,.. I remember in SFB you had to roll a die and use a subtable.
Any documentation on this ?

Ion storms do damage directly to your ship and ignore Shields
-
I think they don't entirely ignore shields. I was playing around and cut through an ion storm to dodge an enemy ship once. It had done some internals on me that had hurt pretty bad, but I had pretty much knocked out its shields without doing a lot of internals. With my shields up, I didn't take a lot of damage, but the enemy was destroyed in well under a minute.

When you say you cut through one, does that mean they do not occupy the entire map, like a nebula does. So in an ion storm only a certain part of the map is actually the ion part?

corect just a part of the map.

Though if you're on one of those tiny maps with the crates all over, it can take up a lot of it.
-
they hurt worse in SFC3 than in OP though.
-
but in 3, Ion Storms don't ignore sheilds...

As I said earlier, I'm fairly certain that they don't entirely ignore shields in OP. As near as I can tell, the better your shields, the longer you last, but you still take internals anyway. I'll have to test at some point to be sure. It could be that I just got out faster and didn't sit there like my AI opponent.

I feel a movie coming on.
Oh wait.... I think they made it already.

My experience shows that no matter what you fly, no matter what your shields are, you take 5 internals per hit, every hit, no matter what, while you are in it. AI and Players alike. Used Ezini to record the hits made to AI and to Players, with full and down shields. This has been my observations.
