Title: having odd problem what causese the time to loose minutes
Post by: Khalee1 on June 19, 2006, 10:21:33 pm
Somehow I lost 5 minutes on my clock could it be the battery or power supply going bad Im still using a 350 powersupply I got last year after the other one went out on me, dont remember who sent it to me but it was some one from here on the forums.

if it's the battery are they easy to change I have a amd 64 msi mother board top of the line when I got it, but its about 4 years old now. And  dont say I need to get another computer As I can't aford one, unless I get it a part at a time. I'll try to find the specs later as I got to dig thru some boxes for the manual. And i got to get to work.

I suspect it's the motherboard battery, since the motherboard is 4 years old and that you had to change power supplies.  The thing is you really won't know until you change the motherboard battery.  Unless of course you pay to have the motherboard tested.

Keep in mind that the clocks on computers aren't all that accurate, and it is possible for you to loose time over time =)

It's also possible for the clock in windows to go faster than normal.

One of my Win2k boxen at home is routinely 10-30mins ahead without me ever messing with settings.

Some programs notably games have been known to mess with the system clock so you may wish to check what programs you have added recently.

Only thing i use on there is BT now.  Hasnt run a game since late Feb when I got my laptop.

I'm not terribly concerned about it.  I have plenty of other ways to see what time it is.  Especially since the W2k box isnt my primary anymore.

It could be the System Clock Gnomes. I hear they like to mess with your computers clock as a part of their nefairious scheme to defeat daylight savings time and install their own "Gnome central time" as a new timekeeping standard.

At least, that's what I heard from the voices in my head...who heard if from someone elses voices who heard if from Billy Joel's college roomate.

So I take it it's not something to be really concerned about.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. If nothing else, just switch out the Cmos Battery. Tell the peeps up at PC club what MB you have and they should be able to fix you right up.
