Title: Display Resolution
Post by: Bonk on July 15, 2006, 01:04:19 pm
Just doing a little research for a project I have on the go. (I can't bring myself to put a javascript on our pages to collect the info from our users). I don't think I have done such a poll yet, I know I did one on refresh rates (http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163352038.0.html) though.

Basically I want to know if anyone is still browsing at less than 1024x768.

Don't know what your desktop resolution is? Check it here: http://www.webdoodles.org/pages/screentest.htm

I'm also curious if people use small icons in browser toolbars or turn them off or use fullscreen mode to maximise available screen area to display webpages.

Usually surf at 800x600 unless I just don't want to have to scroll around the screen...then I'll bump it to 1024x768.

1024x768 is the finest my iBook will go.  If I'm on a machine that'll do better I crank it up as far as it'll go.

I like small print

I'm running at 1280×1024, I don't like to scroll around when I'm web surfing if I can help it.

I use 1280 x 1024 on my 19" Sony, it is a good balance of size and naturally readable text for someone that wears bi-focals. :)

Edit: I am a small icon user.

DOH! I made a mistake, I hit x 768 instead of 1280 x 1024.

1152x864 here, with liberal use of the intellimouse blow up when dealing with any print a little smaller than this is in the text entry field

I just modified the poll so you can change your vote (remove vote and re-vote).

It depends on which PC i'm on.

Work:  1600x1200, FFox takes a bit over half of the screen, leaving enough open so I can keep my work queue open IAW, visible enough for me to see.

Home, docked, single screen:  1440x1050 - default res for my LCD monitor.

Home, docked, dual screen:  1680x1050 + 1440x1050.  I need a bigger desk to do this effectively, but it sure looks nice.

Home, undocked:  1680x1050.  FFox fulll screen due to my being lazy.  Then again I'm rarely undocked; and if I am, it's usually because I'm not home, or i'm mudding while in bed.

if my iBook had larger res than 1024x768 I'd use it knowing the print of 1280x1024 on a 12-inch screen would be *really* tiny.

But Sony does it on their itty bitty full-function pocket machines so I know it's possible
