RM and Admins may now assign a ship to any player with sufficient pp from any race. So this means if you capped an enemy ship, you get to fly it... if of course your RM doesnt confiscate it and fly it himself.
One catch... ONE captured ship may be flown even if it counts against the max iron rule. Rest have to follow standard fleet and cnc restrictions. Oh, and these are one of a kind ships that cannot be replaced.
We are checking the shiplist to see if all the commando variants are in the list... ;)

Um not quite... that's not what I thought you asked for:
At Dizzy's request (:whip: ;)), I have modified the ship assignments code such that the assignee is debited the value of the assigned ship (and thus must have sufficient PP for the assigned ship) and RMs may assign a ship from any allied playable race to any allied player (admins may assign a ship from any playable race to any player - though I could open that up to non-playable races as well I think...).
Though I can make it so that RMs can assign ships from any race to any allied player. Not hard. I assume that is what you want considering this post? I'll modify it tomorrow if so.
Do you still want the player to be charged the PP for the assigned ships?
-
Yes and yes. RM's need to be able to pick from all races and charge players when assigning them ships. If there needs be a pp edit an admin can do that, otherwise assigning ships amount to a free pp award... a feature I'm not planning on using atm.
Power up those transporters, boys and girls!

Would this only apply to ships captured in PvP play? Such captures are very rare compared to AI captures and flying enemy ships should be rare.

I'm pretty sure that's what he means. AI captures are commonplace, especially for Klingons. ;) :flame:

Never bring a Bathleth to a phaser fight.

With all their transporters Klingon ships are superbly made for capturing so that isn't too surprising.
My one time PvP capture on Dynaverse (EAW) I was playing Romulan and was out numbered 3 players (2 Feds 1 with a CC the other a CA and a single Mirak with a CC and a CA) against my CC doing a convoy defense (I saved 1 frieghter). The game ended with my capturing the Fed CC.
It would have been fun flying it as well as the Romulan vessel and with the ability to put out bounties it would have made for interesting times.

A TOS Klingon uses the appropriate weapon. Ancient traditions are in the way on the battlefield.

You're right... His breath is a better weapon.

Only the ones who drink Romulan ale. There is a reason its banned.
Now if I want to be truely deadly I remove my boots after a week aboard a captured vessel.

Hm...I like this idea...
I have heard many times pilots wishing for just such.
It could prove...interesting... ;D

Yeah, but how does the Alliance manage to ban our CiC from flying anything valuable?

<Raises hand>
Ah, dumb question here. All these "feature" requests would seem to suggest that they will be incorporated into SG6 which I would then have to assume will be run as an SQL server. Is SQL ready for a major server or has this already been done? The reason I ask is two-fold.
1. If SQL is not ready for a major server, then why use it on a major server?
2. If SQL is not ready for a major server, wouldn't time be better spent working on the server kit than implementing features that may not be used with any frequency if SQL cannot be made stable enough for a major server?
-
Forge has been on sql since it started. Player load is the only iffy part about sql at this point afaik.
-
Valid questions.
Invalid answer: we cannot help ourselves.
More valid answer: The Forge has been running stably on MySQL for 7 months with reasonable player loads. We have not seen the player loads that seem to casue issue with the serverkit on MySQL for quite some time now, even on "major" servers.
Debug tests of the serverkit on MySQL will resume after SG6, we are committed to squashing any remaining bugs. (after the development box is updated.)
Our biggest hurtle right now is bandwidth. Thankfully the dynaverse server uses relatively little, on UDP sockets. (though the stateless nature of UDP packets may ultimately be related to our stability under load issues.)

Are we ready to restart SGO6 on flatfile if it should become necessary?
-
Flatfile/SQL, when the installer is done they will both be ready.
-
Yes, albeit feature reduced. Though I'm sure it will be fun either way. I'm feeling pretty optimistic about this one, but still prepared to fallback to the flatfile with a basic webmap. Dave's new flatfile editor can still allow us some new toys too. :)

Speaking of which, how's that shiplist, map and misison list coming along? :whip: ;)
-
It seems that the workload for RMs is gonna be more paperwork than being executioner of the supreme commanders planning...
Good thing I'll only have a couple of pilots that fly Rom ;D
So who's gonna write the multi-paged do's and don'ts of being an RM.I'm new at this part of cam(PAIN) play so gonna need some help.

Dizzy received the completed lists last night

I have the utmost confidence in you, Soth.
