Just curious. I love AOTK2 where we did 20 game years in 30 days and REALLY got to torture people in early Era ;D
-
You forgot 6 weeks: Storm Season 2.
Actually what I really liked about SS2 was each round was 6 days with a day off.
-
The shorter the better if you ask me. I'd think that it would bring everyone to the table, do their bit, have their fun and not get burnt out or bored.

What is the feasibility of running a server with OP+ 4.0 Hardcore shiplist only ?

I'm honestly thinking (though this involves absolutely no working) about using the "cold war" idea across a 3 (or more) week server
What if (say) for the
first week you had skirmishes along the 4 powers border,
2nd week 4 powers war,skirmishes along Fed/Klnk/Rom and Rom/Gorn Border
3rd week Fed/Gorn/Rom join in
4th week has the ISC show.

Entirely feasible, may even be forthcoming.

Does hardcore use the donations?

Whoa... Wraith doesnt know the complexities of the shiplist and server settings so he has no idea but his question is entirely valid but you should and should know better. SG6 has a near perfect shiplist for the dyna and all there needs done is special out the ships you dont want showing up in the yards or in AI, but doing so you run the risk of AI DB corruption from ships that are missing. Every server year must be tested with a new shiplist to ensure all ship classes and bpv ranges are accounted for and it takes a server load and the full course of a server to adequatly test. What ships in SG6 are not wanted in a Hardcore Server? I may be able to help.
-
You may not know this Diz, but I was the one who gave FS the prune list for Hardcore. I know exactly what's in there and what's not.
-
Hardcore does not use donation. It is just a trimmed OP+4.
However it is not compatible with the Dynaverse server as all the ships in the pirate slots have been set to BPV 999 to prevent their being purchased in direct games. (there's that trust thing again... ::))
Anyway, if the normal BPVs for the pirate slots are restored (a considerable amount of work) then there is no reason that Hardcore will not work on a Dynaverse server. But if used as it is, it would upset the server considerably.
-
Exactly what I was thinking Bonk.
It wouldn't be much work, just copy/pasting the BPV's from 4.0 would work. None of the pirates were removed.
-

Im basically with Lepton on this one. I tend to get burnt at the end of week two on servers with intense administration demands. (I voted for 2 weeks) One can always break a longer server up into a few two week parts, which can be a good thing.
Long term casual servers like The Forge are no problem though as people are not so uptight about it and I can do the administrative work at my leisure. We need to keep such servers up for a number of reasons.
-
Exactly what I was thinking Bonk.
If you want to put the effort in (probably easier for you as you know what's been trimmed) to restore the normal pirate BPVs for the serverside list, we could try doing the next run of The Forge on Hardcore. It might work out well... (are the X-ships yanked too? in which case we just don't run it into advanced...)
-
And fix the Lyran YFA's of course ;D
-
I dont see it... So you guys are saying. "Take the toys out of the shiplist and more peeps will show up."
???
Where is your marketing rep? He needs to be slapped.
-
No, not at all. Lots of people like Hardcore. A server running it might go over really well. Most of all the good stuff is still there, just the fat of OP+4 (mainly the scads of freighters) and the rare/unique ships are removed. It could work out really well.
Have no fear, with each passing day the urge to run another SFB-OP server grows stronger in me... (full SFB cheese compliment, fleets allowed, no disengagment rule... a casual fun server to enjoy real furball fleet battles with lots of hectic action).
Some of you hardcore types really should check out the UAW server as well, if you haven't already, the work that went into that mod is astounding. No, its not a tradtitional SFC server nor is it meant to be, just appreciate it for what it is. Every time I fly on it I am amazed and have fun with alll the neat toys. :)

That's a fantastic idea. I'm certain Frey would be extremely stoked about this.
I'd be more than happy to do the legwork. Kougar could maybe do some QA for me since he knows pirates much better than I do.
-
I just got to thinking about AI generated by mission scripts... we probably should have the orginal pirate BPVs in the client side list as well. It would not be too big a deal to update the new Hardcore Installer/Configurator with a Dynaverse shiplist version option as well... :moo:
-
X-ships BTW were moved to Adv. If we tweaked the YFA's and use DH's X-ships they would fit in well.
I wouldn't want X2's at all though.
-
<coughs> LYran FYA's

If you do that you have the SG6 shiplist u twat. Like I said, a few ships specialed out in the list of sg6 and you'd have a cool hardcore list, but with all the cool SFB additions.
-
SG6 minus HDW's. Those are banned from HC.
Honestly HC is not all that different from DH's mod but I still like the idea of using it on a campaign.
-
Here's the thing... we know SG6 list works fantastically. It's part of the sgodev project since sg3. It's where it needs to be. Just Special out of that list anything undesired. Run an accelerated test server to make sure the AI plays nice with all the builds. You should be good.
-
I don't mind the longer servers if they have some breaks, without them i just get plain burnt. I could live with a 6 week server with a week break between early and mid and another between mid and late era. I think that could be cool.
-
Speaking of shiplist omissions, where the heck is the K-B11K? EVERY other race has their top battleship except the Klinks. I find that kind of ammusing. B10K isnt quite up to par vs its counterparts and heavy carriers that will be fielded in the latter parts of this server. And id still take the F-BB over the B11K.
-
The B-10V is also missing

You are correct, Dizzy, I don't know the "in's and out's" of a server shiplist. I just threw a question/idea out, it was not intended to create controversy. The shiplist for SGO6 is very good, I have no problems with it.

lol, everything creates controversy with this bunch. Like we are all a bunch of old gossiping women or something.

A good thing that there is a gender icon for any newbies that come to this forum!!! ;D ;D
-
oops, I alone voted for a 'longer than that' server.
I'm A HUGE fan of the forge and tho' I've not d/l'd the hardcore mod I could get into a forge/hardcore server. I'm dying to get ahold of a rom cl-x ship and play it a few weeks online.
