Cause it is a movie

:goodpost: agreed ...cause it's a movie...though the trek nut answer is "Modular bridge design" The entire bridge is designed to be detached from the saucer and replaced as per mission specs. Also the stations lining the outer bridge are modular and designed to be added/removed as needed for each mission.

If starships were buildings the bridge would be a basic large room with power points all over the floors and wall and equipment would just be rolled in and out as needed.
Infact, I think starships would be that way if they didn't think consoles would silde all over the place in battle
