We give up. Bah! We are red meat eating SUV-driving Americans, we know not of this fish sauce of which you speak.

Now get back in the kitchen and make me some ribs woman!

Fish sauce dates back to the times of the Roman empire. :o

Nam Pla is Thai for fish sauce.

See, that explains it.  The experts come up with all these fancy reasons for the fall of the Roman Empire.  Now we know the real cause.  Fish Sauce!!!  If they were in the kitchen eating ribs those darn barbarians would have just rushed in and joined the meal.  Can you see some steppe tribe chieftan eating fish sauce!

Roman pansies.
