Title: Help changing the SFC3 cutting beam
Post by: Garath9 on November 28, 2006, 07:13:33 pm
OK I would like to know if it possible to make the cutting beam, look like the old fussion beam, and
if so how.

I'm not sure what the old fussion beams look like, but you can edit the 2 texture files in MS Paint...  cutting_beam.bmp  and cutting_beam2.bmp in your SFC3/Assets/Textures folder.

Thanks riptide for the reply, but I know about those 2 texture files. I want to narrow the beam width and
look to match the mauler or fusion beam weapons from the older games. The beam width is probably controled by the q3 sprites file and untouchable. BTW try deleting the cutting_beam2 file the weapon
still works but the effects are interesting

you can narrow the beam by editing those files....  I've played with these and got a lightning strike effect... pretty cool.

Here are the 2 texture files and how I changed them...

cutting_beam

cutting_beam2

Here are a couple of ingame screenshots of them in action...

cuppled with the right sound file, it works great.

but you can see how there are multiple instances of the beam in each texture file... 6 of them... so all you need to do is to narrow each instance... you just need to play with the files abit until you like what you see.

nice work and thanks that bit about 6 instances of the beam per texture will help. i was editing the whole
thing not as 6 on a single texture
