Im working, I'll be on late tonight if anyone wants to do co-op or PvP.
The chat server is besuted though se definately use Voice Coms of some sort.
-
Allright Sarah...where are you at? I've arrived at the Klingon-Federation Border. Grid 16-9.
I won't stray more than a hex for the next hour or so.
-
Aww...*beep* Damn you Kirk!!!!
Slingshot around the star...pick up enough speed your in Time Warp...if you don't your fried...
My only question is...where's the star?

Righto, thanks Q. I'm keeping a list of bugs/fixes and their status at the top of this thread:
http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php?topic=163371030.msg1122757948#msg1122757948
I'll try to keep on top of all the bug reports that come in on different threads and consolidate them there.
EDIT: BTW - if we run into some scenarios that are bugged too badly and/or can't be fixed in time for any given server run I can disable those scenarios in the final build.
thanks for the feedback!

Q, sorry I missed you.
The new missions seem to work well on the test server. The only downside to it is that all missions are mandatory, even in your home space. Other than that I'm having a ball running protection rackets and blasting rivals.
Edit: Getting the chat working is a must (if it's an easy fix, that is). Voice comms are a no-go for me. It would be cool to hail fellow players.
-
Must be something with the Cartels, because I got from Earth to the Border Region without taking a mission. Missions in Nuetral or Enemy space are mandatory.
Sarah: I saw you hanging around in 12, 11. I tried to get to you, but each time I couldn't pull it off. Another time perhaps?

I'm always glad to duel with a gentleman. Let me know what name you're flying under, and what voice comm you're on. I can hear you, but can't respond. Hopefully we can get the chat fixed.
It may have something to do with being a pirate. I'm flying Korgath and even home space has all mandatory missions.
-
I actually do not have a voice chat program installed yet. I had it on my old computer, but I haven't gotten around to getting it on this one yet. I may do that later this afternoon.
I'll be at work until about 11 Central tonight, but I have Friday off. Although I plan on going to College Station later that day.

That'll be a result of the server political settings - if your cartel is enemies with the overlapping empire then you'll draw hostile missions.
Do some right clicking to find an empire your cartel is friendly with, then work your way over there and you can carve out a pirate homeland free of mandatory missions. If I get the chance to fly a little today then I might do that with the Wyldefire ;)

I'll bug Frey about the Chat server, I'm not sure wheter it is on my end or Dnet's . . .
-
I can get on now, is anyone else on?
There's no point in doing the server unless we can get some PvP action going to test the MP stuff.
Heck...why not, I'll be in and around 16-9. Unless I see some pretty heavy activity within five hexes of me, I won't stray far. I'll be on for another hour, some one come get me, I'll be flying an F-CC+. :)
-
I'll jump on and try to catch up with you. Happy flying. I'm in a Korgath D6.
-
Did it crash?
Oh well, thanks for letting me wing with you Sarah, I don't know what happened that last time we tried. but afterwards I couldn't get a mission to draft. Then the server went down.
-
That last time I drafted you I got the full countdown on the Briefing screen. You weren't there so I warped out. Then I tried grabbing you one more time but I missed you. I ran the mission and when I got out I had lost my connection to the server. It wasn't there when I looked.
Other than that it was cool flying with you, Q. I hope we get to do it again.
-
OK I guess this means that Ill have to download all the new missions. Get on over to the ED server and get off the 24/7 roleplay Freelancer server. Break out my Trusty Z-DF+ and raise a little Heck..... did any one say "Deep Strike" ;D
-
Sorry folks, I had to reset the DB because I'm dumbass. She's up right now.
I'll be home in a few hours, I'll restart it if is crashes after I return.
-
Does resetting the data base mean I need to pick a race again?
P.S. Way to go on getting chat working.
-
I have resolved a heating problem w/ my video card. Maybe later i will install OP. :)
-
Approximately 7:45 A.M. EST, the ED Hell server is not showing up on the directory. The other 3 do show up. I'll check back later. Long live House Korgath!
-
It's up and running now, perhaps one night this week we can organize 6 people to see what these missions do in a 3v3?
-
Cool...sorry...been too busy to even launch OP this week,... a few minutes to check the forums is all I been getting..
-

I could go for some of that. Let me know what you decide on in terms of time and place.

ar you sure we can't put in some of those toys that we had a couple of months ago?
-
DH, you gotta speed up the server a bit. I am waiting forever for a newly purchased ship from the shipyard.
-
I can't say I am enjoying these new missions. They are too long and so far too little happens in them. At least in a 3v3 with AI and a pirate thrown in there, you can watch and assess the situation as you get there. Something is happening, but with these missions I fly for 3 minutes to run into a basically stationary pirate that either fights me or flees (which is annoying, the fleeing) or I get to shoot an asteroid. What's the point? I am glad all these things can be scripted and triggered and such, a real demonstration of ED's ability but so far the content of the missions is not really satisfying. Did I mention that I materialized inside an asteroid in one of the maps and blew up instantaneously or at least that is how it appeared. Not a Hand of Bethke, but a boom and end of mission. That was real fun.
-
Sorry, I know I am going to sound like an ass but what the heck is up with these missions. I get a report of a terrain anomaly and something about asteroids to serve as protection. I go towards this anomaly via the arrow and proceed to crash into something invisible and die. Again, what's the point of this? This is a space COMBAT game. If I want a puzzle game, I'll go buy Myst for ten bucks. I am sure some may enjoy this, but not I.
-
You have to understand Lepton, this is a debugging server. These things are supposed to be reported to ED and fixed. But they can't be fixed if they aren't reported properly.
-
Yes, I am aware of that, and yes, there are potential bugs, but that is not the point of my posts. My point is simple, while the effort is well made, I am not sure these are really missions appropriate to dynaverse server. Might be more suited to single player campaign. People wanna blow stuff up. I don't see much of that happening here.
-
Well, the intent of these missions is to create a more realistic patrol. You don't always engage the enemy every time you leave space dock. Sometimes all you do is beam survivors off an asteroid. The chance is also there to carelessly attack a friendly ship and lose the mission. It's a shame you're not enjoying these new scenarios.
This is why being a pirate is so much more fun with the new setup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bkhtgjt_VYc&search=family%20guy%20stewie
-
Really all that's different on this server is that Hex-Flippers have some new missions. PvP will still draw almost entirely combat missions. If you don't fleet, which is what is usually happening on this test server, you'll get the Non-Combat Missions start being thrown in.
-
I feel like an asshat for being critical in that it's an amazing effort and people are enjoying these missions, but I don't see the appeal. It's my sense that people want combat not missions per se. Hasn't this been what we have been doing for the past 7 years? Isn't that why we are here? As for the pirate end, there are any number of games out there committed to being a privateer. While the additions seem to be welcome by many, I don't have a sense that people will play SFC for the commerce end of the pirate game, but I could be wrong.
-
Server has been sped up to 2.5 minutes per turn.
I think the anomolies are a fun diversion but Leptop is knida right, they do occur too often. Perhaps the anomoliies should only occur in friendly/Neutral space? I think in hostile space you are much more likely to encounter enemies than space aomembas.

Not yet, I don't want people to have to swap their shiplists from the Forge so this can be eaiser.
PS. I've made the list modular so I can swith between 2/3 fighters and SFB compliments in about 2 minutes. I just copied the original compliemtns to the extra collumns at the end of the list. SImple cut and Paste in Excel and we're back to 2/3 :)

Trek was always about more than just comabt. Yes, this IS a combat game but other functions of a Starship captaint can be a lot of fun to. I think Patrolling your Interiror would lead to more pirate encounters, monsters, and resuing Freightors full of prostitutes and the border would see much more enemy encounters.

While trek is more than combat, I am not sure we can say that SFC is or that a dyna server is. Can you imagine using these missions in a regular campaign server like SGO? I don't think so. A 6 minute mission to chase down one pirate? People will plotz. I think this mission pack could be ideal for a more role-playing type server, especially on the pirate side, but I have yet to see such an RPG server. Would anyone show up?
-
I'd show up. These sort of role playing additions to regular SFC add a new dimension of fun to the game.
Besides, having to hunt down the enemy isn't such a bad thing. It gives us average players a slightly more level playing field with the professional hex flippers.
That being said, I would suggest that any server running these in their campaign might consider going with a lower hex DV, like in KCW. This might help absorb the time lost to longish missions.
-
As would I.
Anyway...I'm going into the server in about 20 minutes, I'll be on for 2 hours or so. :)
-
Or maybe not...
Time's stopped on the server. Either that or each turn is Longer than 15 minutes.

You're not being an asshat at all, honest feedback is what we want! And I agree with you in a lot of ways - I think many/most servers will still be combat oriented, in which case it's easy to simply not include these two scenario scripts. (Or to include only the friendly space scenarios, not the enemy space ones.)
I do think there's room for the odd specialty server though (I really enjoyed HB's last pirate server - in part I've had that style of server in mind while working on these.) And keep in mind that any PvP situations automatically revert to combat, so the front lines will still be about a good ol' scrap.
For the sake of testing I've left the probabilities of different scenarios more-or-less equal, but those distributions are easily changed. I'd expected to have to adjust the probabilities so that the non-combat scenarios are much rarer in hostile space, and so that some of the scenarios are really rare.
The other thing that we need to play with is the length of time it takes to detect and reach the opposition - I've stuck in some default values for now, but they are easily adjusted. (Note: they can be adjusted by scenario type as well, so some of the scenarios can be sped up if desired.)
Any and all feedback is welcome - please don't hold back out of fear of sounding negative!
thanks,
dave

Yep, you bet. Playing with what appears/where/how often is something I can really use feedback on, since I've pretty much just been pulling it out of my ass so far ;)

Maybe this is a dumb idea, but how about a scenario that combines a scanning mission with some enemy ships? You'd have to scan for long enough to make holding out against enemy fire a challenge. Then you could either escape with the data or, perhaps, fight your way out.

That's not a dumb idea at all. There are some details I'll need to work out to make that fit with the existing scenario structure, so it'll have to go on the "to do later" pile, but I like it!

if you connect to the IRC server through the OCI..assuming they still allow that, you can read the whole message. I'd tell you what it says, but i dont have a forge character presently

Geek, if you're up for it, I think I may have resolved the issue on my computer as to why you couldn't draft me, if your available tommorow we could run a couple to test.
-
That would be cool. Sorry I couldn't stay for the whole test tonight. It was fun.
-
I tried to get on the server around 8 a.m. EST and it wasn't listed. Then I tried again around 9 a.m., and still no luck.

It's back up now, I've changed physicall hardware from what I used to use. I'll figure out why it turns off at night.
EDIT: I'm a dumbass, I forget to set the Terminal Service Session to never time out :banghead:
Don't EVER upgrade your hardware :)
-
Curses. Die Hard, you need to update your server with the latest pack. Since I got the new pack my files don't match yours.

Will do tommorow, I JUST got home from friday. who wants to organize some MP bug tests for this week?
-
I'll be on tommorow morning and early Afternoon. Then I nominally would have Tuesday and Wednesday all day...however, my car needs some work done to it, and I don't know how long its going to take. I guess I'm going to have to play it by ear.
-
Server is back up with the Dec 8 Missions ;D
-
Yay!
-
server's down... :(
-
should be up now
-
not seeing it, still. :(

not seeing it, still. :(
Having directory server issues, I'll check it tonight as it could be my Home network
-
Sorry Geek, I don't know what happened on that last one, got something weird with the countdown timer, but I've been noticing that all the missions have been taking longer to get in and out of.
Anyways, I have to get going, its going to be a long enough day tomorrow as it is.
-
No biggie, Q. It was cool winging with you again. The server seems to be down. I'm not sure if this is an online play bug, but I'll report it here too. I was in a BCH0, and encountered a burned out small frieghter, which then proceeded to "attack" me. I was in Orion Pirate Space, in a Korgath ship.
-
Hostile Patrol and Terrain Assault mission in neutral space shows a blank (grey lattice) chart on the Mission Briefing, but te mission loads and runs fine.
On the pirate emcounter, the arrow keeps pointing at the last position of the "unknown vessel" even after it speeds up and manoeuvres to attack.
Neutral hexes flipped to the correct colour.
Hostile Patrol in an enemy base hex gave a Base Station assault, which worked and DV shift was correct.
I have noticed as well the need to turn 180 degrees to find the enemy - if I have an AI ally, I 'follow' him and go get a beer hehe.
-
I'm flying Prime on the server, and my cartel seems to be partners with every single cartel on the map. The only hexes I can change the DV of are neutral hexes. I have been attacking the Orions without mercy and haven't so much as shifted a single point of DV across multiple hexes.
-
server will be back up tonight. I don't think I'm doing anything until way late, who wants to test some missions in PvP to see if the bugs went away?
-
Tempting. I'm out of work tonight at 10PM EST. Will probably be home by 10:30.
-
Sorry, Die Hard, but I can't this time. I've been really sick and I can't guarantee I can be there.
