Title: Scale

I've had a question bouncing around in my head for awhile and since I'd nothing else to do thought I'd throw it out here.

Anyone remember way back to SFC1, or was it early 2, when the 1/20th scale packs were released in an attempt to standardize the size of models in relation to each other and cannon sizes?

My question is: Did the modeling community ever end up agreeing on a standard scale set for building the models or is it a "whatever size the model maker picks" type of scenario?

Just something I've been thinking about in-between drooling over the models themselves.

All of my models are scaled with the Assimsoft Scaler Tool for Milkshape. I believe that that tool is complient with the 1/20 scale rule.

I think that Outlance may use a different scale in order to make shuttles and fighters more playable.

So 1/20th did end up becoming a standard rule of thumb. I forgot about shuttles and fighters, but figured they'd be the exceptions to any agreements on scaling.

I think the scaler tool is part of the SFC/Armada/BC/Others import and export with hardpoint/node editing by Chris Graham, Assimilation Software package.  Look under tools dropdown==>Assimilation Scaler Tool :)

The one thing that will drive you nutty is that with newer versions of Milkshape, for this to work right, the entire mesh must be one group. You could get around this by grouping the mesh, sizing your model, and then merging with the original and using conventional scaling to match the size, then delete your grouped model. Or, you could just make sure that your entire model is one group to begin with like I do.

1/19.4 is closer to the actual scale for all them sfc ships, though the difference from that and 1/20th is about 10-15m

Thanks Tus. Does everyone pretty much go with that when they make the models? Nothing stranger than seeing a Reliant the size of an Ambassador.  ;D
