What... are these people out of their minds??!? You mean to tell me that "Useful tech support" isn't even mentioned let alone #1. People are truly out of their minds. I'll never buy another Dell. Pfffft.
-
They do want tech support to be in the U.S. not overseas and want the Indian call centers shut down. So it did make the list just lower down the first page.
Apparently there are 45 pages of suggestions (each has more detail than I posted here).
-
I'd certainly vote for #2 & #3...
The free "Dell De-Crapify" software that's available out there just doesn't work as well as one might hope... :P
-
How about no Dell at all? Is that an option? ;D

Unless Punisher holds a gun to your head and forces you to buy Dell, I guess...

It's the option I've lived with for the last four years and I've never looked back. I really think that building is the best way to go.

I also prefer building my own.
If Dell acts on these suggestions it would be a good deal for those with neither the ability nor inclination to self build. It would be even better if the rest of the top 10 computer sellers would take this advice as well.
-
I don't like "proprietary".

Bah! I'm not that evil. Besides, I bought in with the Sony people.
::holds gun to your head::
So, you want a VIAO or what bitch?

I being pulled to the dark side, oops, I meant Dell side.
For just under a grand they offer the E521 dual core and the only thing wrong, (other than I can't configure components down to brand and model) seems to be that the power supply is only 305W. In the past I've used sites like ABS that will let you choose componets but I've priced the same system with them and two other sites, and the Dell is coming up a better price by at least $200 or more.
I may sell my soul and dignity to Dell for that price. :'(
Of course if I can't de-crapify the pre-installed software I'll be selling my sanity as well!
PLEASE, someone suggest a good configure it yourself site so I don't have to dirty myself with a Dell. :puke:
-
I got a Dell with my Uncle's help. It's a dang good computer overall.
I think it would be nice however (and not just speaking of Dell) if you would get a choice between Windows or other OS's in existence however).

Here is the proper image for Windows Stephen.

The current top 10 on the Dell page
1/ 81739 - Pre-Installed Linux
2/ 52072 - Pre-Installed OpenOffice
3/ 40797 - linux laptop
4/ 39118 - NO EXTRA SOFTWARE OPTION
5/ 33665 - Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser
6/ 31450 - No OS Preloaded
7/ 16841 - Linux 2.6.16 ready (sticker)
8/ 16918 - National Call Centers
9/ 15086 - Provide Linux Drivers for all your Hardware
10/ 14509 - More RAM!
I suspect that it has been influenced by being posted to various Linux friendly sites.
-
I wonder who did that? ;)

I wonder who did that? ;)
Somebody got it posted to Slashdot. Which is where I learned about it.
I posted it here and talked to 3 people (2 windows and 1 windows and linux user) offline. So I'm not responsible. I didn't even vote as I have never bought a Dell and have no intention of buying one.
(I wonder if anyone suggested getting rid of the Dude your getting a Dell commercials? I barely saw any of them and found it terribly annoying.)

We are listening, and as a result, we are working with Novell to certify our corporate client products for Linux, including our OptiPlex desktops, Latitude notebooks and Dell Precision workstations. This is another step towards ensuring that our customers have a good experience with Linux on our systems.
Seems like Dell may be paying attention. It will be interesting to see the pricing this time.

My Sony VAIO handled SFC and OP very, very well, especially since I was a nutter like Flufbot at one time! ;D
In all seriousness, besides the mandatory coded CDs for doing anything with your VAIO, I really, really loved that machine!
