Are there any .mod or .nif plugins for z modeler?  Or anything that can convert .mod or .nif to z3d?

Nope,

The .mod plugin was written for by taldren for SFC and Max 3. Someone else actually updated the plugin to work with 4 and 5 and also for Milkshape. Your best bet would probably to get Milkshape as it can convert to and from most formats and is only about 30 USD, it is widily supported, and most games.
