I'm wondering what you guys think of the matchup here.
To be clear, tho, there is a time to fight and a time to flip hexes and the latter was of more concern to one of the involved sides in this match. But in the interests of a straight up PvP fight when flipping hexes isn't a concern, hwo do you call it?

Fed and ISC seem to have the advantage. Fed/ISC are far more effective at long range then that particular Hydran and Romulan ship. Hydran and Rom must get in close to be really effective(and gets its fighters close in as well), not that Hydran couldnt do some long range damage, but yea, overall Id say its Fed/ISC that would have the advantage there.

I voted fed isc as well, BUT the CAY has only the two S torps to keep them from getting run down...
-
To be honest, I can't vote on this one...
Because it all hinges on the (in)effectiveness of the fighters.
The Hydran/Rommie team is fielding something like 6x4 fighter squadrons (4x4 Hydran choice and 2x4 Rommie) against the Fed's (F18/F14) fighters and AMD.
The ISC is, by nature, poor in fighter defense, no AMD, and light armaments on the tail (6xPh-3 & 2xPh-1). Anti-fighter work was one of the primary reasons the I-torp was invented.
On the odd chance that the fighters do as ordered and rape the CAY, that leaves the DVL against an ID and "NHK", with whatever fighters survive on harassment duties. Big time phaser-boat battle, which will favor Coalition as they out-phaser & out-number the DVL.
If the fighters do as expected, and the Coalition fighters fall to Fed fighters & AMD, killing all Fed fighters in process, the battle will probably be Fed/ISC, as they can operate at longer ranges avoiding the heavy Rom plasma / Hydran gats. Gotta love PPDs, Proxies, and a ton of Ph-1...

There should be a 4th option: "Close enough for Rock n Roll"
PS. I voted the Fed and ISC were better.
-
I would think its close enough for an engagement if the mission had been entered. If its a strategic hex a close fight might not be what was desired however.
-
At first glance, the Fed/ISC ships seem to have the tactical advantage because of their ranged damage capability. Fighter selection for the Fed and Hydran could make a big difference here. The Hydran/Rom pilots would have to force the attack more.
It certainly seems a match-up that would be worth trying, but we all know that it would ultimately depend on which pilots were involved.
Interesting post Dizzy.

As long as the I-CAY can keep it's ECM advantage, Plasma torps hot and the PPD firing then the Fed/ISC combo will have the advantage in the long-range duel.
If the Hydrans chases then the ISC can run away at high-speed ready to dump a real Plasma torp on the enemy's shield when there is an opening. It takes a while, but the Hydrans cannot win this kind of cat-and-mouse fight unless they have fighters that can do speed 31 and are loaded up with Hellbores.
The Fed ship just needs to follow the ISC ship, and ping the enemy with photon proxies whenever possible.
That's how I would play the duel. :D

Just to add a note:
The Fed/ISC combination would more likely win the match but the Rom/Hydran combo would be the most likely to score a kill.
The Hydran/Rom combo would be more likely to be able to get off the map if things turned sour, whereas the Fed/ISC combo would be in real hot water due to the fighter madness that could ensue if they hit trouble.

One problem is the fighters... if they work right, they might be able to force the Fed/ISC combo off the map.
If they got very lucky, they could get the kill in... More than likely, they would end up eating a boat load of Fed fighter drones trying to close in....
Another problem for the H/R, they would be forced to chase down the Fed/ISC combo
The issue with a chase by the H-ID is that in order to chase... it has to dump nearly all its heavy weapons...
After all, it is effectively only a BCH in firepower (at spd 30+ sporting a phaser suite with 1 HB or 2 normal Fus loaded) with better shields but a worse power curve.
Giving the advantage even further to the F/I as now you have a HC (in the SUA) equivilant and CAV vs a DNL with fighters and a very heavy HC...
What good is that? The CAY and DVL can load weapons and keep at or near speed 31.
The ID will be eating S torps left and right... not too mention drones from the Fed fighters and DVL.
It boils down to a boxer vs brawler fight... The boxer should win as long as he keeps his distance, but the brawler wins if he can get close enough....
The Rom/Hydran combo would only get forced retreat of the Fed/ISC combo if the Fed and ISC pilots were in anyway competent....

And why would they be running? ;)
-
What I meant was if the DVL team blows their plasma, they have tbombs and ftrs as their main defensive measure to keep the ID team from simply over running and killing them.
To be honest tho, there are SO many ways to play that match... There are some good tactical ideas on this thread. Seems the lot of us disagree on most of it.

Corbo!! He's alive!! You got a working PC yet?

Depends on the map size.

Depends on the map size.
Good point! Camping near the border would be the best defense.
The Fed/ISC team would have to play a defensive game until the ID's fighters were less of an issue. They would take damage, but with 2 PPD's, 6 Shot-Gunned plasma F's and 3 AMD (I think) they could make a pretty good mess of them given the opportunity.
