Title: Jenshahn-class heavy carrier (CVL)
Post by: Scottish Andy on July 09, 2007, 10:28:52 pm
Here is my first attempt at the slightly earlier version of the Youngblood class heavy carrier. It is based off of Atrahasis' Tikopai kitbash of Pneumonic81's Enterprise-A model and textures, with some new parts and textures made by Atrahasis. I did this model first, was happy with it, then did my Youngblood and used what I'd learned there to go back and improve the accuracy of that model. I'm currently working on the Chosin class, again based off of Atrahasis' Belknap rebuilding of Pneumonic81's Enterprise-A model and textures, with a new secondary hull and textures for that made by Atrahasis.

So, here's the picture of the Jenshahn, introduced (in Starbase 23's Timeline) in 2277. The Youngblood class is introduced around 2287 as an improved version. Hence the Jehnshan is my CVL, and the Youngblood is my CVL+. According to the source material by Mark A. Wilson, the Jenshahn and Youngbloods can carry 35+ medium-sized shuttlecraft, and the smaller Chosin can manage only 25+. Obviously, larger shuttlecraft carried reduces the number of craft carried.

Not being able to build this ship from scratch and get the proper (if bizarre) navigational deflector on the front end, and not being able (yet!) to carve out the holes in the side of the hull for the secondary shuttlebays, as well as being unable to create a brand new impulse deck, and all the other things too, I had hoped someone would build this anew, like Sandman is doing for that Santee-class escort carrier.

However, seeing the ease at which MP bashed together his Youngblood, I thought I'd give it a go too. I practised on this Jenshahn before moving onto my Youngblood attempt, and I think it turned out okay, but obviously not as good as my Youngblood. So, here's my attempt. Feel free to give an in-depth critique. I'm the first to admit she needs a hell of a lot more work to make her "real", as well as some polish to give her a proper registry. Maybe USS Elohim NCC-2219, from the name of a cancelled Tikopai class from the Franz Joseph Tech Manual, as is the Jenshahn herself. I'll reinstall Photoshop and work on that later. Build time was 9 hours on the day before I did the Youngblood.

I give you: USS Elohim NCC-2219!

Hey Andy give this one a try   :)

The Name and Class can stay but it'll need a new Registry as the one it uses is a Royal Sovereign Class Reg
NCC -2155  thru 2160 are Unused   ;)

Now, that's not bad at all. However, the little "scale" diagram in the lower left is waaaaay the smeg off.

I think I'll give this one a go. Thanks, MP!

Well done guys on the Jenshahn-class heavy carrier (CVL).

Doesn't this ship though remind you of the Illustrious Class?

I can't help but wonder if the original Illustrious Model builder had the  Jenshahn-class heavy carrier in mind and it evolved into the Illustrious Class.

Yup, that's the Chosin-class attack carrier. It too is on Mark Wilson's 'Federation Shuttlecarrier Comparison Pack'. I'm working on that (I have a started kitbash in progress), but it did kinda take a back seat to my T'Lani-class science cruiser, and my first scratch-built mesh, which can  be seen here:

Have a look and tell me what you think, and more importantly, what I can do to improve it.

Thanks for bringing it up though, MP. Any other ships you think I might like to give a go, by all means, bring them to my attention!

The Aquila looks like an upgrade of the FASA Pittsburgh Class strike cruiser. Could be used as a sub class variant of the Pittsburgh Class. The only difference between the Pittsburgh and the Aquila is the secondary hull, as far as I can make out from diagrams.

If I remember right, the Pittsburghs run up somewhere in the 3700's and are a small class run. The registery is established in fandom since the 1980's, so you'll be able to look it up and find a diagram online like I did when I created a model of the Pittsburgh.

The Aquila looks better.

Andy, will you be releasing your Jenshahn carrier? It's very accurate, and I'm hoping to add it to my ship lineup.

Yes I will. My apologies for taking so long to put them up, but they will go up, hopefully within the week.
