He looks very Romulan frankly.  Square-shouldered jacket with long sleeves.

Most of those shots are outside the soundstage. The jacket is not costume, but intended (and required) to hide the costume from just such picture taking.

And I'm not sure that's padding, he looks to be naturally square shouldered.
