Title: Been away too long...
Post by: IAF Lyrkiller on November 20, 2007, 04:39:30 pm
What servers are in the works etc., and where is everyone?

There's the Forge which is a SQL testbed/semi serious server, plus other servers coming.

I think although the forums are quieter than they used to be, there's a lot of lurkers (myself included, my work means I'm gone away a fair bit but I still check here) judging by the Currently Online listing I usually see when I log in...

I'd say keep tuned.  Age notwithstanding, this game is far from dead.

I would play again, if I could get the Dynaverse 2 (even with the update) to work.

Perhaps if you stated the exact nature of your issue, someone can help you with advice.
Include details on what you have tried and what OS you use (ie. XP, Vista, Linux, etc)
It has been done many times before... ;)

Trying to access Forge.  Running XP Pro.  I get to the connection screen and get a mesg about Must be behind a Firewall.  I shut the firewall down, tried again.  Removed the router entirely as well.  Still no luck.  I have the Forge patch and Firesouls OP+.  Frustrating, but I am going to get back in somehow.

Do you have the directory Server Updater? You'll need it to access the D2 since Taldren dumped their support of the game.
If not, you can get it here:
http://www.dynaverse.net/downloads/sfc2_op/patches/sfc2_directory_server_updater.exe

if you already have it...well, I'm not sure...

you can also check this thread for step by step details on what you'll need, complete with all links:

maybe you'll find something you missed.  ;)

I tried the first part.

Will try a complete clean install tonight to be sure.  Frustrating, but so was Dyna in the first few months.  Post back later.

Was windows firewall the one that was shut down or some other one?  What held me back for a while was that I had Wan Ping replies disabled on my router.  I also had ports forwarded to all internal IPs.  Once I directed them towards a single IP and enabled ping I was able to connect.  If you have a direct connection to the internet, the directory servers patch, and you still get the error maybe your isp is blocking the ports?  Just trying to throw some ideas out there since I know how frustrating it can be.  Keep at it and good luck!

it would have been an automatic update if you needed it.

Not needed.  Still can not get past this Firewall error.  Portforwarded all the ports from my DSL modem per the write ups I found.  Wierd.

Are you on a network? I guess it might depend on your area and ISP, but I have Verizon DSL with a Westell modem and never had to forward ports to get on the D2.
Another question, are you behind a router or switch? sorry of you said that before...I didn't reread all the post...call me lazy... :P

Okay, the issue for me was a ADSL modem with its own router built in.  Which required I put it into bridge mode and THEN forward from the router to my computer.  I could also forward directly from the ADSL modem, but the defeated my next issue.

I am now trying to get two computers on my network to connect.  I have a theory.  I installed a hub between my ADSL modem and router.  I am going to try two routers and have each one port forward to a different computer.  In theory this should work as the hub will send the same data to each router.  Not sure what it will do with the data though.

IN theory this should have worked.  But my provider only allows one independent login account at any time.  Therefore my PPPoe will not let me connect my router and computer at the same time.

you could always ask for a second IP, then each system has it's own.
