Based on the SFB miniature...............

Using Romulan technology, the Klingons modified several D6-class ships to D6M maulers.
The D6M was used for fleet support, but it proved to need too much power to be effective at the time.
With it's engines and batteries tied directly into the mauler cannons, these ships could not be equipped with disruptors.
Its short range heavy firepower led to the ship being used as an escort towards the end of its operational life, unable even to compete with the original incarnation of the Constitution class ships.
Some of these ships still exist, in service with minor noble houses.

Nice job, MP. Good to have you back cranking models out again.
You're being a bit hard on the old girl in your description though, I think. Used in fleet battles, as her original design intended, there were quite a number of tactics she could successfully employ. As a solo ship the design was too specialized to be an effective dueler. This was never the intention of the ship though.

Yep the Mauler is a siege weapon. Use against bases and such. Basically things that can't move out of the way.

Hmm... maybe the head style for the mauler would be better suited on the hull of a FASA D-10.
