...my new smc gateway modem wants to know more than just the port numbers. What interval numbers is it looking for to play sfc? What's this IP replacement stuff and what is the allow sessions stuff? Thanks.
Users can define their port trigger here to allow the specific multiple session protocols to pass through the firewall.
Name
Type TCP / UDP
Port Number From To
Interval ( 50 ~ 30000 ms )
IP Replacement Disable address replacement/ Enable replacement on TCP/ Enable replacement on UDP
Allow sessions initiated from/to the 3rd host

Unless you have real security concerns, it might be easier to simply set the router for the DMZ mode and then you won't need to open any ports. ;)
If you have that option...

computer 1 dmz'd will play on dyna and I ran a few on the bone yard. Computer 2 which I added sunday, gets the firewall message. :(

I believe most routers/modems that have DMZ only allow one computer to be in DMZ?
Dont know for sure since I dont have anything that has DMZ, as I just have all my ports from 1 to 65534 forwarded after setting each computer connected to a static LAN IP address.
If you put your computer into the DMZ, that means that no other computers in your LAN will also be in the DMZ as it cannot nor has "computer 1" 's IP LAN address , so you will need to set up port forwarding to those computers (computer 2's IP address as Server IP) in port forwarding.
Lets say.
Modem: IP 192.168.1.1
Computer 1: IP 192.168.1.2
Computer 2: IP 192.168.1.3
Computer X: IP 192.168.1.X
---
DMZed: 192.168.1.2
Computer 2 through X will not be able to be in the DMZ, so you will need to set the port forwarding for Computer 2.

Some...I had a Linksys braodband router before that set the DMZ for all computers on it.
But, my newer FIOS modem/router will only allow one computer at a time to be in DMZ. I have to appoint which computer will be in DMZ mode in order to connect to the D2.
I didn't find that out until my son couldn't get on (same firewall message) and I explored the settings for my router more.
So...my guess is you may have to do something similiar.
In any case, it's impossible to get 2 computers onto the D2 off the same router at the same time because of sharing the same IP.
Funny how SFC has always been so damned hard interacting with firewalls, etc compared to many of the other games I've played.

Thanks guys. I'll play around with it a little more. 8)

Success! Ok, so I can't have both computers online playing sfc, (rats! wanted the kid to join in a bit) However, I just got computer 2, my new baby, online! I went to start-run-ipconfig/all and got computer 2's address and entered that into the DMZ address boxes and presto change-o, computer 2 is DMZ'd while computer 1 is still firewalled. 8)

It has been my experience that you can only get 2 players from the same household(or any similar situation) to play Starfleet when either of these conditions are met. How you meet them though is up to you guys, not me.
1-you have same CD game installed, but are not using the same system(ie: Dynaverse, or GSA in same room). This would allow father and son to play, but one in Dyna, 1 in GSA, or 2 in GSA, but not in same room.
2-you have 2 differing CD games installed(using seperate CD-Keys). This works for GSA, but not Dyna.
3-same CD intall, but 2 seperate IPs. Works for Dyna, and GSA.
4-2 different CD-Keys(or games), and 2 IPs. Works for Dyna and GSA.
I hope this helps.

I have the 2 different OP games with thier keys and have played on GSA with the two in a 1V1. The gateway modem was Rogers' cable solution to me wanting a second IP which was WRONG, but only cost $1.50 more a month than the previous modem.

Perhaps, if it can be afforded, go to a switch instead, and ask for 2 seperate IPs assigned to your account. This is the way for me, and it works beautifully.

Try ipconfig/release then ipconfig/renew.... should get an ip starting with 24.168.???.??? I run an smc and have 4 puters on d2 i never ported or anything ,but do have a switch that runs all the puters from router to switch .
