Just started my 7 yr old son on OP . He said it was the best game he ever played and that was just the skirmish mission. he is currently in training to play what ever Race he wants when he is ready. It will take a while , but he'll get there. However if he chooses Feds , it's air lock 13 needs assistance, immediate response required :o

Go for it! I guess I'm still a kid, but OP is one of my favorite games of all time.
Now if I could just get my dad to play...

Try as I have, I can't seem to get my own 17 (18 in a couple months) son to play on D2 much.
I think he fears an embarrassing defeat along the way. He still doesn't grasp that everyone has their share of those.
That and he's a big FPS gamer ususally.
He played the heck out of the single player campaign in several modes tho.
It made me proud he never even tried Feds...
I hoping he'll make an appearance on SGO8...we shall see.
Can you both be online at the same time? That's the way to go... ;)
Let us know if he pops in on SGO8...maybe we can find him a wing. ;D

I got my 16 year old son flying in OP. He has a couple of his friends interested also. Always nice when an 'old and outdated' game can attract the firstperson shooter crowd.
-
Its always nice when an "outdated game" sparks the mind and makes them think.... strategy, management, economical planning, finesse, ect.... great to hear of the young blood comming into the fold... bring 'em by the Tavern & train 'em to beat the Borg... and, ... 1st round's on the house 8)

Found two used copies on E-bay around 10 bucks(Snatched them up) , new 16-20 bucks . Still thinking about buying another. I've have more fun with this game than any others that are available today. This action is not far from the future if Man Kind gets it's act together :( Hollywood has already sent the the others watching this planet future notice :D So lets scrabble to get the technology up and go out there an take what we can!!! :) I'm sure we'll perform as previous History has already dictated ::) Thanks for the support and He'll get his weekly training as time allows. For the Glory of the Empire!

NOTHING checks CD keys. Just an FYI . . .
Please let the world know this :D

:rwoot: This would be good if someone wanted to market a new version. Unfortunately, the current buisness model for games is $15.00 a month with no offline gameplay. Pitty, those are more work away from work. I wonder why they are so popular.
Nice to know that nothing checks CD keys. I guess this game has more life afterall. Though that after all the origional players lost their CDs the game would come to an end. SFC is easy to learn, yet difficult to master. Unllike an MMORPG, you don't have to devote your life to it to really get involved in multi-player.

Hmm, wonder how much trouble it would be for a few backup ISO files for the disks might be to archive for download to replace disks that get scratched beyond recognition. I know my OP disk can only be read by one of my three drives now. It is on it's last legs. If it was possible to get backup's like that then us older players would be able to replace our disks as they wear out. MIght be an idea for one of the overseas sights, it might be more of a sticky wicket for us on this side of the pond to do.
-
My OP disk is beyond usable for a few years now. The only way I can load it up from scratch is from an old copy.
-
I haven't used the OP disk much-- only for installation-- so it is in good shape. I'm looking into some freeware .ISO software, so I could, you know, supply it. Not sure how legal this is, but I'll keep you posted <wink wink, nudge nudge>. ;)

I've always run SFC 1 from a copy and kept the master safe.
I do this with all my favourite games.
As for playing with the kids...... it was my son that bought SFC 1 game in the first place.
We started off running a null modem cable, made from phone extension leads, 7 pin "D" plugs and glue gun, between rooms for combined play.
Now it is 6 player LAN with old SFB playing friends in campaigns for fleet actions.
My son currently flies in our current campaign on the Klingon side against the Kzinti side.
He also likes to fly Gorn also.
-
My son is a pirate. Um, ah, an Orion Merchant I mean, yeah, an Orion Merchant, that's the ticket.
-
I can neither confirm nor deny that there is a fully-functional OP out there on Bit torrent . . .
-
Orion Pirates.... er.... merchants??
Ah, yes, the Klingon Empire's cadet "Live Firing Practice Targets"!! ;D

Well, this young merchant can handle his own fairly well. I am looking forward to watching him when the next server comes up.
