Hello,
I have been in search of a decent Web hosting company, but don't understand the jargon. :D
My Web Site will need a Web server to upload approx 500Mb, it is compiled and ready to load just need a package that can handle it. :o
What do I look for in a web hosting company, e.g. web space, transfer rate, etc?
Any ideas?
Worfy ;D

Hello,
I just sat here having a ciggie, and a thought pop up.
I have over 200GB of data capacity left, can I partition the drive and and create my own web server?
If so what software would I need?
Worfy ;D

Apache , download and install a copy on your local machine on a high speed connection, use dydns.com for your DNS linking to your IP of the website. (as you need DNS configured to reach it on the internet). (most residential ISP accounts do not allow this though, so be careful)
Note that this would be just for HTTP sites. You will need MySQL, PHP, Perl, etc. if your site is PHP or any other server markup language.

Hello,
Thanks for the information, but please be gentle with me a newbie.
I have forums set up, via php, on a trial website, www.worfhonour.co.uk.
But the hosting company has a restriction of 100MB.
What does the rest do and how do i get them to work together, I know groan. ::)
Are they separate packages or bundled?

I know it's a little late but I have a site that may help you make your hosting decision. They've reviewed over 7,000 hosting companies of all types. Maybe you'll get some joy out of it. It was a definite time-saver for me since I didn't have to hunt randomly through the whole internet looking for business hosting.
Just a word of advice from a total techno-barbarian: one of the features you should absolutely be on the lookout for is a comprehensive and easy-to-use site builder. The best ones have hundreds of site templates and operate mostly on a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) basis and can be set up with mouse-clicks despite a total lack of knowledge in the fields of HTML, MySQL, etc.

Spambots got to your phpbb install. >:(
There is no defence against that in the stock phpbb code. It needs considerable modification to result in a secure install (this will be changing, finally, with v3 - we hope... it has been requested thousands of times.)

For basic stuff, I've always had decent luck with godaddy.com
