Redraft rule:
- If a player drops while a missions is loading, the remaining players should fly off the map and attempt to redraft the mission. It is best to have the player with the worst connection draft in these cases as it will be the most stable.
There is some Grey area with this. Kaz, Lepton, Mutt, Wraith, and I came up with something of a Gentleman’s Agreement regarding what happens if the draft fails the second time.
- If the draft fails the first time and there is a redraft, the team with the least amount of players flies off the map. If the team choses not to have a re-draft the pilots who fly off take the disengagement penalty.
- If the redraft fails the SECOND time, the team with the least amount of players flies off the map with no disengagement penalty. They’ve already given up 2 points of DV, which is enough.

Agreeable.

So long as the designated drafter (dd) does not have Norton or McAfee installed.
The ideal drafter is actually the one on the fastest connection (lowest latency - not bandwidth - dial up can exceed some highspeed connections for latency), with the fastest computer, without any software firewalls running, no Norton or McAfee, and not a wireless transceiver in sight. No USB modems either. If the dd is behind a router they should understand private vs public IP addresses and have an understanding of how network address translation works (NAT) and comprehend why a static lan IP is required, why allowing ICMP echo reqests on the WAN is important, etc.. etc...

The ideal drafter is actually the one on the fastest connection . . .
My experience indicates this to be the opposite, from OBSERVATION it tends to work best when the player with the worst connection drafts.
You are right about software firewalls though.

I am forced to agree with my esteemed college... ;D
Usually the slow man will drop from the mission, either at the start or sometime during the mission.

From what I have noticed, it is a more stable load (less drop outs on start) if the slower user hosts/drafts, but doesn't show much of a difference once loaded(except in mega battles that would strain a dialup line)

This is practical but unsatisfying to me. When it takes this long to try to get a PvP match going, I'd prefer that somehow we attempt to drop players that are not connecting and at least put together a 2v2 or a 1v1, just something so that people can actually battle it out. We were trying to do a 3v3 that did not seem to want to work out as I remember. Would a 2v2 not have been a good choice to make instead? I don't know if there needs to be a standard rule for this, but I think people should at least have the option of configuring an actual match that works if they want to have a fight, if both parties agree.

Practicality is exactly what we need.
"Dropping" a slower connection player for an online match doesn't do much for this already shrinking community, either.
It's sure better than right away giving pilots a reason to not even try to play because or their IP connection, which they may simply not be able to do anything about.
Besides, even if you have everyone on the same type of connection, different ISPs may still have issues regardless, been there, done that.
I think this is a reasonable solution without making things real complicated.
If a majority of players dislike it, however, perhaps another compromise could be reached.

What I meant by dropping a player is if all else fails. We try the redrafts. If that doesn't work, then if people want a fight, they should have the option of configuring a smaller set of players that will hopefully be more stable. I am not suggesting that we stigmatize anyone from the get-go for failing to connect. In this particular case, we had two different people from our side drop, so it was not as if anyone would have been singled out.

well i use the shield deluxe. i refuse to use norton or mcafee. i'm also using sprint mobile broadband for my isp. i can't even get dsl out here i'm so far in the styx :P
i've only had a problem once with a 3v3 matchup. i didn't make it first try but when i hosted i made it and kaz didn't... sigh. all in all it's been a blast playing with all of you again.

Don't sweat it Leto, we're just glad you're here :) Can always redraft after all.
