Title: Anyone Ever Read "Rihannsu: The Bloodwing Voyages"...
Post by: Atolm-Rising on October 13, 2008, 05:47:18 pm
Well there is a Ship in the last book (which is not in the compiled volume) called "The Empty Chair" called the Tyrava.
I was built by the "Ship-Clans" in (in secret) the outter territories of the Imperium and was described as:
"It was a triple-hulled design,  all three of the huge backswept, cylidrical hulls mounted parallel, at hundred-and-twenty degree angles, in a mighty framework. "
The ship was also mentioned to have no visible, external warp nacelles.
Now, the vessel was also described as being over 3 km in length (I personally do not buy that, as in the series ship sizes were wildly attributed, especially for the era of the book's timeframe).

Anyway, I drew up what I precieved the Tyrava, might have looked like, and scaled it way down from 3 km (although I'm pretty sure I will rescale it again so that its just a bit smaller.  Again, I cannot see the size of certain vessels being larger than a certain scale).

Enjoy:

Highly Recommended!
I posted the design to see if I could get her meshed, either by me or who ever :)
and thoughts on it

Can't help you with Meshing as I never bothered to learn how to do that, go figure.

As for the design, don't know. I think thinner hulls would look better, or at least thinning one of them to be more of a outrigger.
Either way I think it would be a good start one Lyran style ships for a reference

I read the book and kinda scoffed the design/scale that it "built" in my head. Your scketch does justiice to the script but it reminds me more of an ISC designs thna a rommie.

Someone makes the mesh I will do textures and lightmaps
Aye, unfortunately, the description doesn't leave too much to interpretation as to the overall shape...I mean I had tried a 3 Rom BoP-like trimaran-type hull as well, but that may not work either.
So in this vessel's case, there may not be a happy medium(at least not one I could find readily).  All I know is that the ship is Drei-hulled, tapered-shaped, and was designed primarily as a colony vessel, but was used as a dreadnought or battleship in its role during the conflicts in the last book of the series.

While I have never read the book, the Tyrava would be quite the challenge to model I think.  I have looked at the preliminary sketches multiple times and my poor mind has difficulty visualizing it.  Of course, I often have to look at these thing for a while before I figure them out.  Not exactly sure where I would start on this beastie.  :-\
