Title: David Tennant Quitting as Doctor Who After 2009
Post by: Pestalence_XC on November 30, 2008, 08:34:33 pm
David Tennant has officially announced his intention to step away from his role as The Doctor in the longest-running science fiction series in history, Doctor Who, according to U.K. newspaper, The Guardian,

"I've had the most brilliant, bewildering and life-changing time working on Doctor Who," Tennant said. "I have loved every day of it. It would be very easy to cling on to the Tardis console forever and I fear that if I don't take a deep breath and make the decision to move on now, then I simply never will."

Tennant (in a BBC publicity photo) will remain with the series through four specials planned in 2009. The timing makes sense, as it means new executive producer Steven Moffat can start his tenure fresh in 2010 with the new 11th Doctor.

Let the casting rumors begin with extra fervor now.

to me there is only two in this list http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7699513.stm that have the Doctor vibe, McAvoy and Pertwee. i personally am hoping for Pertwee kind of keeping it in the family so to speak.

Agreed.. I favor Pertwee myself as well.. would pay great hommage to the series of old. McAvoy had the look of a cross between the 9th and 10th Doctor and would be a good fit.. the rest.. well the first guy just doesn't seem to have a fact to match the traditional Doctor personality.. the second guy looks more at home in a role on Star Trek as a Captain and Nesbit looks too mean or evil to fill the role.. more suited for playing the Master than the Doctor. The last guy looks more at home filling in for Leonardo Decaprio than as the Doctor.

David Morriseys already been rules out of the running as the next doctor despite his pleasing performance in the xmas special. he said in an interview on the confidential episode after the special that he couldnt do it episode after episode but enjoyed it as a one-off.

Joseph looks good but for how long he'd be able to do the action scenes is worrying since hes already 44.. if he becaome doctor, it be only for a couple of years.
Pertwee and Nesbit arent going to get the role. At least i hope they dont. I cant stand their acting and they wouldnt be suited for the role. they'd be worse than tennant.

Tovey and McAvoy are simply too young.. Doctor who needs an older and more experienced actor to fill the shoes. tennant was almost too young for the role!

I'm more interested in te companion! Who's next?
I certainly hope it'll be Sheridan Smith, the star from Two Pints of Lagar and a packet of crisps.

We've had Rose Tyler, who was great, Martha Jones, also brilliant, Donna Noble, meh was better than expected.. but who next? Doctor needs a companion and its been overlooked to whom it may be since Tennant announced his departure.

Sheridan Smith has voiced the 7th doctors companion on BB7' radio show and would make a fitting role as the 10th/11th doctors side kick. shes hot, full of flair and shes a great actor. in fact shes very similar to rose, in the sense that shes not perfect but a bit ruff round the edges - if you cath my drift.

Still, what is to come remains in much speculation and what happens we can only see.. I honestly do hope that Doctor only makes the right steps and continues to cativate me and many others (despite season 4's terrible climax..) heh heh

Browsed a few forums and from what i've read so far, not that many people are happy with this decision... A lot of people think he is too young to play the role.

At the rate they're changing doctors, the character will be dead in a few years (12 regenerations after all)

...unless he goes about stealing bodies like the Master :\

I'd think some sort of resurrection arc is more likely, after the 13th and fatal death.  Something along the lines of what the Master said in "The Sound of Drums", about being brought back to fight.  Though all the Gallifreyans are dead, so I don't know who would be doing the reviving.

I wonder if the 13th Doctor will have red hair.

I tend to agree Grim, in that he seems to young. But It reminds me of the choice in Casting Lois Lane in the last Superman movie. She would have had that kid at 13, making supes a Kiddy Fiddler.

Well, there's also the chance that he could be revived by the genetic stuff from his daughter...

Hehe, this new guy looks like he might spend a lot of time in the Tardis talking to himself, in a dark corner, about how nobody understands how hard it is to do what he does, and why doesn't anybody really like him.  I mean, really like him, and then maybe a little cutting.

Anyway, we'll see how he does it.  I didn't think they'd find anyone better than Eccleston, but they did.  That doesn't mean they'll continue their streak.

Maybe they'll wait to revive the rest of the Time lords until the Doctor's last life ends.  Huge cliffhanger, and then they get to throw some kind of switch that will revive him back to another 13 lives.
