Title: Space dust in SFC looking not as I remember
Post by: L0vetobowl on January 30, 2009, 12:47:38 pm
Using a Geforce 8600Gt and XP. I was wondering if there was a way to help out the texture of the space dust from looking so bleh. If you need anymore system specs just let me know. Any help would be much appreciated.

nope, sorry, that looks about right.  SFC uses 8 bit bmps (and small ones at that) which results in that bleh nature.

I figured as much, so it's basically hardware outgrowing the software. It almost makes me miss 10 years ago. Damn, has it been ten years since SFC 1?  :o

You could always make new BMPs, larger in more detail, to replace the stock ones.  May help.

To an extent yes, I've been doing this (well was, need to get back to it) but your still limited to 8 bit bmps (if you don't use them, the engine will downgrade them crapilily).

It would be neat if 3D space dust were possible. Some of the nebula graphics use a static background, but the more elaborate nebula ones (the ones that shift around as you turn the camera) could be textured as dust. I don't know if this is do-able currently but it would be cool.
