Anybody know the warning signs for an LCD crapping out? My monitor here at works looks as though it has slightly fuzzy, wiggly characters in distinct vertical lines. Although my coworkers can't see it I do whenever there is black test on a white background. Apperas to be columns of fuzziness going across the screen about 1 inch intervals.
Anybody out there know of a site or utility to highlight or confirm such a problem exists?
The screen is an NEC MultiSync LCD 1880SX, about 5-6 years old, constant usage.

You just need the right diagnostic tool (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffo-o262prA). ;D
I took a quick look for diagnostics apps at nec, but it seems they are in denial of the 1880s existence. 17xx,19xx but no 18xx. Though google offers a bazillion reviews, sales and bogus drivers. ::)
Did you buy it outside the US?

I'd like to use that diagnostic tool on the folks at DOIM (Dept of Info Mngmt). They pushed Office 2007 to our network last week and all hell broke loose. Same old same old.
The monitors were a Govt buy so maybe they aren't offered publicly?

Have you changed your video refresh rate lately?

I haven't. Can that only be done physically or might that be something that the push to Office 2007 may have screwed up? FYI: Half our office couldn't use their mice in any of the Office 2007 apps right after the push.

If you can, check to see what the LCD's default refresh should be and make should your display setting are set at that number.
Right click desk top | Personalize | Display Settings | Click Advanced Settings button | Monitor | Check the screen refresh rate

Nick, while I can sympathize with you (2007 was pushed down on us last year)..the paranoids here at ground zero (formally SAC Hdqtrs, now STRATCOM) have so many firewalls and such, that accessing an approved USAF site can take over 30 seconds..let alone they're stripping necessary attachmnents from emails I need from the Primary Standards Lab...
Ahh well, 12 more years and someone else can handle it..I'll be on SS
