OK, decided to do a tried and true method(for me at least) of getting back into modeling...I always seem to go to Starfleet Museum and do 1-2 of these things...guess I need to work my way up to the newer stuff. :P
This is a ship that was used in the Earth/ Romulan War to facilitate timely communications between ships on the frontline and command(before they used ftl torpedoes to communicate), greatly increasing a patrol/task forces effectiveness. This is a redesign of the Baikal class, which was a Bison class re-fitted with a subspace transmitter array, tho it's effectivesness was limited to the fusion reactors power output limitations. The Marconi class was a refitted Tannhauser class, with the same M/AM reactor, therefore providing the necessary power.
Anyway, you can read about it at SFMuseum. ;D

Nice job there . Does the ship have orientation thrusters to flip the ship and point the dish at the target? Weird design but looking good so far

Looking good!

Thanx Guys!! ;D
The mesh was pretty simple...I've always found meshing easier than texturing...only took 3 hours...textures much longer, lol.
I'm having a blast tho, and that's what counts. ;)
Should have updates later tonight. :coolsmiley:

Ah, Marconi did his trans-atlantic work in the very town in which I am living.

Unfortunately, While experimenting with how to get models into and out of gmax I somehow killed this one...still have untextured backup copy, but won't work on it anytime soon...was just a test model anyway...I remember how to do most things. ;D

Sandman .. one way to get models out of GMAX is use the MD3 (Quake3) expotrer and then use 3D explorer to turn it into a .3ds files. after that you can pretty much use it in any model program. you should be able to find everything here http://www.davidhsmith.net/Gmax_to_3d_Explorer.htm
