Right... I'm probably going to draw a lot of flak for this.
Anyone interested in modeling the new ships from the Trek movie? Aside from the Kelvin and Controversial Enterprise (personally the design's grown on me- I want to see her fly alongside the other connies out there), there are at least 4-5 other starships present in the movie. We probably won't have the details until the DVD, but nothing's stopping us from kitbashing something similar is there?

The BC Community has already created several versions of the Kelvin and the bastardprise. Securing permissions for conversion is possible.

the bastardprise.

What can I say, it's a horrible ship.

I'd, for one, like to see the models.
I'd like to see what our talented people here can do with the Kelvin, and the Enterprise, personally.
And while Bridgecommander has some nice models, most are way to over-poly'ed to port right over to OP.
I swear to Chaos if you people can't be civil, even if you disagree... *shakes head*
Seriously, people.

Frey is quite correct with regards to the poly counts of the BC versions. IIRC The Kelvin is some 31,000 polys and I think the JJEnterprise is about 60k
-
that's nuts even for BC. Majority of BC is under 15k.
-
I though Wilies JJprise was a scosh over 11k with 2048s making up the extra detail?

So instead of being insulting Adonis, why don't you post the correct poly counts which are as follows:
Wileys JJEnterprise is exactly 32,701 polys and his Kelvin is 25,608 polys
Baz1701 Kelvin refit is 29,355 polys
.....and whilst I was wrong with my initial count (baring in mind I'm sure I read it on one of the forums so it might have been about a different pair of models), these counts are absolutely accurate as I imported the models into MS3d.
-
YoYopop did a conversion of Wilies JJprise for Legacy that is said in the description to be 60k+ but it didn't look any different to me.
-
Either way, both of Wiley's models are too high poly for use in SFC, however, unless I am mistaken, Wiley isn't the only one that's done a Kelvin and bastardprise for BC.
And yes, I really really hate the ship.

Wow. I see this place is live and kicking still... kicking Trek that is! Nothing changes ;). Has no-one has noticed the direction they have taken with the ship designs in the film? I'd almost go as far as to say there is a Franz Joseph-esque feel to it... Kelvin is an ideal scout/destroyer, there are several really interesting designs around the Spacedock (which itself is lifted from an old TOS design that did not make it into the series), ranging from cruiser like designs to something that resembles a 4 engined Battleship (which is a likely candidate for that large saucer Enterprise almost comes a cropper with at Vulcan).
I love the new direction they have taken, as I feel that it's not so 'new' at all...
Glad to see activity here though, in all honesty - it's been too long since I was here last!

CC22! Where's your Reliant!? :P
The way I see it is this: The Kelvin's design is also part of the "Prime" universe, since if you give it a coat of thermal paint I imagine it would look very much like the Pre-TOS designs floating about. From what I've seen the Kelvin is much, much closer to TOS than Enterprise was. From the Props to the shuttles to the arrangement of the registry on the underside of the saucer. Heck, when I saw the scene of a guy getting sucked out into space and bounce off one of the phaser turrets, it reminded me of the boiler diagram Scotty was looking at. Maybe a precursor?
But the destruction of the Kelvin (presumably a starfleet workhorse) meant paranoia for the Federation and they had to advance many programs. What would have been the Constitution as we 'knew' it was advanced to something like a TMP hybrid. I mean, if you look at kitbashes of the "Kelvinprise" (http://trekmodeler.deviantart.com/art/Kelvinprise-render-2-115547620), it looks much more similar to the original than what we ended up with. Had Nero not appeared, development might have smoothly transitioned into what we knew as TOS. The architecture about the Kelvin suggests as much.
I saw what looked like four and three-nacelled versions of what might have been Kelvin kitbashes... I won't know until I see the movie next :) or until the DVD comes out, or photos bob up on the internet. I'm just happy that we got more Federation ships in this 'brave new world', and for once Enterprise wasn't "the only ship in the quadrant" :)
