well my xp hdd took a dump on me is there any software that you suggest that might  help me recover some files on it? or is there maybe a way to gain acess to it from my nix hdd? ubuntu 8.04 or 9.04 are what i have installed on the other drive.

Runtime.GetDataBack.for.NTFS.v3.32-YAG (2.5Mb)

Can't recall if Linux uses NTFS though. If not try GetDataBack or R-Studio

It does.  I use NTFS on my external backup drive for my Linux system so I can access it from Windows systems.
