ello folks, im a shipbuilder over @ BCC and a buddy of mine thought putting up my latest release here for some extra critique would be a good idea, so i present to you the Post-Nemesis Galaxy Refit U.S.S. Yamato-A.
she needs a hardpoint and MVAM scripting done, wich i have someone on as we speak, so sometime next week she should be up @ BC-Files.com

It's certainly well made and interesting.
For a variant however, how about having the ablative look all over the saucer instead of just the back quarter? I don't think Galaxies wear that look as well as a Sovvie does.
;D

I'm of the opposite mind than Star Dragon, just did up a quick mod of your pic (very VERY rough because I'm coming up to the end of my lunch hour).
I'd bring down the degree of the darker panelling, sticking mostly with the section around and above the impulse engines. It'd be a cleaner look I'd think:

Welcome. Always good to see a new contributer in the modeling forum.
The model looks good! Check the window placement on the ventral surfaces (both saucer and engineering). I'm not a TNG expert by any stretch, but they just don't look right to me. It would matter more in BC being 3D, than SFC where you don't see the bottom, but it's better to have it right anyway, IMO. A very nice model though.

Hello,
Not a fan of mixed era textures, which is what you have here. You can go one of two ways to get a good looking finished project.
The first is to go the way atheorhaven is showing by making a more galaxy look to the textures. If you do decide to go that route then I would drop the black area and use more of a blue tone. The object would be to try to get more of the Galaxy X look from TNG series.
The other way you could go is to make it look more like WZ mnemosyne or mnemosynenx ships. These had a Galaxy class shape with Soverign type textures which I think is the better looking of the two ways.
You should be able to find them here (http://drs.battleclinic.com/index2-fed.html) at his site

I've been seeing the progress of this ship over at BCC, and I am impressed. I know you can't go much higher in the poly count, at least I remember some hardware issue preventing more polys, but this is certainly a good ship. I think you should do more with the textures. They seem kinda bland at this point. Perhaps more hull lines, panel details, stuff like that.

thanks guys, i appreciate the critiuqe, however its a tad late for changes as ive sent her off for hardpointing about an hour ago.
..... not to mention im lazy
there are hull lines etc. however theyr almost as light as they are on DJ Curtis' galaxy model and almost negligible unless your on top of it.
(plus those shots were not taken with specs on, paneling shows up WAY better with them on)
i beleive windows look funky because the outlines and whatnot were done with a straight line tool, and the windows were applied using the "curve and capitol I" method, and IMO thats y they dont look flush with the rest of the ship... plus my mapping was a smidge off in some places.
hardware issues are my biggest problem for not being able to create high poly models, which as soon as i get into the military, getting a better rig will be #2 on my list of things to get..... #1 is putting my 88 mustang on the road
as for adding more armour to to the ship, heh heh that was phase 2 of the project, which i completed today.
i give you the war refit U.S.S. Valentine

for those wondering BOTH ships should be up on BCFiles this friday, and running.....
im just grateful this didnt turn out as much of a disaster as the arsenal class did.... which was my first BC Model, and on my WIP list slated for remaking

you know this blend would actualy make a good ISS galaxy class, just the coloring looks more militaristic, or perhaps what the changes might have been in yesterdays enterprise, had that incident happened closer to the era of the sov and they had more fx budget for the episode.
-
I hate to say this as I'm normally a fan of this style of panelling and such, but it looks ugly, too much contrast, and its rather confusing to look at. i do like how you carried the armour over to the more exposed areas of the ship as it gave it a more uniform feel.. But it still just looks wrong.
The problem is to much black more grays would work better, with black detailing to cause that area to stand out.

Yipes. Battleclinic is unsearchable. I can't find your ship!
-
Don't think she's been released yet.
-
not yet, were in the process of getting the hardpoint solid before we release them (sorry for misleading the release date, i lost internet for 3 weeks and progress stopped)
i have other ships that are done as well so feel free to scan my thread on BCC as im too lazy to put the pics up lol, you can comment on them here or there, i do check both :)
