Title: Turn 3D Model into Physical Model
Post by: intermech on August 18, 2009, 01:02:43 pm
This looks like an interesting company to which you can upload your own 3D model, they 3D print it and send it to you. Most affordable I have seen so far:

Has anyone tried this?

It's actually something I've been thinking about for a while.  I work with a number of CNC machines, and we've been talking about getting a 3d printer.  We have a lathe on one of the tables, though, and I've always wanted to try cutting a ship.  Might have to get around to that someday.

I have 2 companys that have requested some of my models to be 3d printed but i have yet to see any results from the work i sent them. My guess they just wanted the rights and the models and will forget who made them when they sell the first run.

Nice, there's a 3D prototyping machine over at the University of New Orleans.  For an AutoCAD/Solidworks class I took, the professor had our final projects (an AO slot car) made.  Still got my model (a Plymouth Superbird).

UNO? I don't live far from there. But  I am sure it is not something they do whimsically for any old joe.

Here's a thought to ponder (and I've been thinking about it quite a bit)

I wonder what the resolution is on these (and I'm tempted to wait until the next version comes out) but it sure is fun to think about.
