You should not need to use vpn. I assume you are new to XP SP2/3? Read up on the windows firewall and if you decide to leave it enabled, configure it (including ICMP). Were you using vpn on XP SP1?

Please provide more detail: exact OS version, connection type, router etc...

hello,
A ray of hope please.

Yes a compete novice to this, groan.

OS 2 comps on network , 1 XP home  and second vista.

No i was not using VPN on SP1.

Router D-Link

Connection DSL.

I read instuctions on the SP2/3 but you may as well talk in a foriegn language, i know groan :crazy2:

A bit of laymans terms would help.

Thanks for being interested, got some smooth servers ready, 3 years and many long hours in the making.

My primary goal is to share them with ya all, just cant drill through, i play them most nights.

In hope,

Worfy ;D

I am not familiar with AVGs firewall.

Is the router new? Does it have a firewall?

If you are behind a router (static private lan IP with ports forwarded and pings allowed) I would just disable the AVG firewall while playing.

If you have three servers ready to run, then I'll stick with you till we get this figured out for you. Have patience. I recommend reading your router users manual (not cheat sheet) in full, as well as the AVG firewall help files.

Actually I made a post with a summary of relevant knowledge:

Ah, also, behind a router you will want to use the undocumented centralswitchaddress line with your Public IP address or domain name. If your public IP address is dynamic, you will have to monitor it and update the centralswitchaddress line and reboot the server when it changes. Or use a dyndns domain name for the purpose. I used to use dns2go for the job. But now I have a business connection with a static public IP address.

Many thanks,
My router is set to dynamic ip, as advised by others.
Router security i will check, i guess it has no firmware security, but will confirm this.

I get exited due to some very slick servers, groan :police:,  i have compiled  464 and 534b servers so all players can enjoy again. I am playing with a 531 server now.

Seriously I have spent 3 year developing these servers  so players can have fun again without over modding and I also have a camp server.  ;D

Again many thank,

Worfy  ;)
