Windows 7 still a no-go with Dynaverse. Dual-boot is the way to go.

For v1 of SFC4 I'd be happy with OP as it is that works in W7.

Not to mention old farts like me, who doesn't even know what it means, and even less on how to do it. :-\

I don't have Win 7 yet, but will on the next round of computers. For anyone who does, does Win 7's compatibility feature work w/ SFCOP?

No.
You can play GSA and IP - but cannot play Dynaverse.
-
Pestalence might be working one something though.
-
I've tested every configuration possible to get D2 working on Windows 7.. No Go.
Dual boot is the only way to go currently with XP on a separate partition.
A ticket has been submitted to MS, but don't hold your breath on this getting resolved.
-
The only other solution is to have 2 HDDs one with Win7 /Vista and the other one with XP.This is what I am thinking of doing .
-
You can do that with 2 HDDs however with Windows 7, and the demand of games; having 2HDDs, i would Raid 0 Stripe them for the access speed and then make a partition and install Win 7 on the main partition and XP on the second partition. this way you get 6 Gb/s transfer rates for both Win 7 and XP.
-
RAID 0 is like Russian roulette in your PC. Lose either disk and you lose everything.

The cleapest solution is to buy a used laptop with XP on it.... ;)

But the speed increase is AWESOME. Just run frequent backups.

The license doesn't belong to you though only the original owner.

Read this in another gaming forum. Likely this has been looked at already, but thought I would post it up here anyway, just in case.
"If you get W7 Professional, you can install an XP compatibility mode option, which basically runs programs that are compatible with XP but not with 7 in an XP virtual machine. So cross-compatibility should not be an issue."
*Edit: Reading the other thread on this topic it appears that this has already been thoroughly tested. :-\

According to my teckies, what Ronin posted should be correct. I just got win7 and its ok... but a bugger trying to reconfigure. But most new computers now have win7 home premium installed and all you have to pay for is the win7 professional package which up here in is about 140 Canadian

Just got two PC with Windows 7 so good timing as ùi set out on this path ...
-
Who here is using the Windows 7 64 bit drivers?I was reading it is best to use Vista drivers 64bit for less lag or none if that is the problem on Dyna.I was having problem with this when playing NFS UnderCover and it would lag up on the Windows 7 drivers but not the Vista drivers.

I was lucky enough to lay my hands on a brand new desktop at Wal Mart last year that was one the few remaining XP's available, so I'm set there, but how does Dyna work through a wireless link with a Win 7 anchor?

Define this "Win 7 Anchor" you mention. If it's ICS I don't think it can work at all.
-
It's a fiberlink I hooked up to a wireless router. The old computer was an XP which is what I played the Dyna on, but it was old and I put it in storage rather than shoot it. The new one is a Win 7 Desktop(I worked in the computer department at Best Buy, and a few of the guys were beta testing Vista, and most of them hated it, so I avoided it like the plague), but my own PC is the earlier mentioned Win XP hooked up by a wireless link.

One of the reasons there's been a delay in the LONG awaited Announcement is due to this.
I'm just going to say it here, so you know.
Firesoul is back. Bonk may be coming back ;) Marstone, get ready.
We're putting up a ESX server to host the dev environment, which means we can host several VMS and bring up virtual machines to test on as needed.
Our goals have changed.
Our first goal is to produce a version of SFC EAW (updated to the OP codebase sans the cartel layer BS) that RUNS ON VISTA / WIN7.
THis will be done by updating the codebase.
Then we will begin work on SFC4 in earnest.
You heard it here first.
Regards,

Sound all Good can I copy and paste this to STGs front page at sometime or let me know more about when it is due or done.I would like to post some news on this or you can e-mail Vic.
-
Thanks for the update. I've been working on how the combat interface works and interacts. I'll put alittle more earnest effort into it now.
-
(there back at my computer and not on my phone)
I will agree, the first thing we really need out is SFC that works on Win7/Vista. That way we can keep the player base going. I think even if we take alittle time to get the OP stuff all added in, just getting a game out that many of the old players can use (since they updated machines) will help alot. It will also give a development team, some time to get used to the codebase, before doing any big changes.
Again, thanks for the update.

Just so everyone is perfectly clear on this, it's not that you can't get to the Dynaverse itself. You can log in. You can pick a campaign server. Even selecting a species for that server works. It's when it goes to load the map after you've done this that Win7 chokes on OP. I just tried. I thought maybe, when I actually got to joining a faction I was going to get through where nobody else had. Didn't happen, of course. Next I test with XP mode...
-
Excellent news, havent logged on since the majority jumped ship to vista/win 7 but kept 3 OP installed XP machines up with mission dev environment intact.
...still lurking, waiting, hoping, and planning for the glorious return of the Dynaverse.

uh...er.....
WOOT!

I still got XP on my system just on another drive and OP is still loaded.
