edit: I have updated the images with straight 1 to 1 crops and used a different ship, should show more detail

Grabbed :-)

Not a fan of this one... Looks like a case of Space Lasagne attacked that connie... Or a bad case of beach rust. Or maybe the Lyrans are having a spectacular sale on area rugs. :P
edit, I once saw damage textures on a ship where you could see areas of flame, but mostly blackened out super structure damage and internal skeletal structure twisted and charred. It was awesome, but cant remember which mesh.
-
Damn, Dizzy, tell us how you really feel....
-
Heh, I would, but peeps would hate me more. Tus has released some bad ass stuff, just not liking this one. I mean, Tus' textures usually rock it, but this one kinda lacks the kaPOW! I'm accustomed to seeing from him. Besides, if you wernt honest, people would release crap all the time and think it was the sh*t.

thats probably because i'm working with in the limitations of the engine. The textures look awesome on the sheets, and i personally think they look awesome one the ships :) (my siren especially) but considering i shunk those down a bit, you are losing detail. You might want to dled them and look for self... or not.

Might be a good template to have fun with. Thx Tus. Too bad sfcop doesnt have a good damage setup...

That it doesn't, sfc3 has a much better one (damage sheets) which I would personally love to some how get into OP. hell, if it were possible to have dx11 version of OP, i'm sure we could do some on the fly 'chunking' for damage. But we can't, thus we work with what we have.
One of my biggest gripes is i don't have real alpha control on the maps. If you were to look at the textures themselve you would see a sh*t ton of detail along the edges that is lost because the transparency works on a 'pure' black pixel (which it doesn't even do right). This of course leads to some issues in control (thus the phaser burns didn't come out quite right... but the potmarks and the spider cracks came out looking awesome because of it... go figure)

What would a model look like damaged with a buncha potmarks and spider cracks?

like it does now with out melted hull scars

This might be a good one to try adding an alpha channel to and trying in SFC3.. should be able to do things like holes and such that way with it..

ya cept last i checked sfc uses damage sheets for each ship

Holy Crap! that gives me an idea!
I wonder if you can make a damage sheet (in sfc3) with an entirely transparent alpha channel. Then make a model with a bunch of interior parts underneath. As the ship gets damaged the damage sheet (which is totally transparent) gets revealed, showing the interior parts underneath...

Yes, you can do that

Maybe - it depends if the Damage sheets alpha textures make a difference.

I don't see why they wouldn't, considering that they let you use them on the regular textures as well. it would seem like to much work for taldren to make that not work like that...
