Making the front end was a complete bi**h, and I know I still didn't get it right, but this is the closest I'll be able to get to it.
-
Good Start.
I would add a few more loops on the front angles to round it out some more.

I actually deleted a few polys in the front to get that shape. I was using the CG Sovereign as a reference.
-
Id say its a very good start. Trouble might be you are using a reference that is to high poly. Heres are some pics of the RD sovi's necelle.
-
I used RD's Sovereign as a starting reference before, , and even used RD's Sovereign nacelles on the Chabot Refit, but it lacked the detail I needed for trying to recreate the shape, and that's why I used CG's Sovereign. Regardless I still can't recreate the shape in the same manner that others have done.
-
I'm gonna finish this one, but I'm not gonna make it to canon. Don't ask me what the poly count is, I didn't keep track.
-
I've never tried making a connie2 nacelle: it always looked difficult to me. Well done!

Trust me, it is difficult. But I know you can make one a lot better than I can.
-
Like I said, I'm not going for canon. But did some more work, and I must say, this already looks like a Connie warp engine.
-
The best part of making this model is that now I can make variants of the nacelle should I choose to. I'm gearing up to remaking my Resurrection from scratch, so this nacelle will end up being used on the ship.
-
There is something to be said for having the skill to replicate another person's design.
-
The WZ-42 nacelles. And they're semi-canon as all I really did was remove the middle divider on the front grill and replace the side intakes and aft fins.
If anyone is going to learn how to make warp engines, the Connie types are the ones to start with as they are deceptively complicated. Once those are mastered, other engines (and one's own designs) are a lot easier. I've certainly gotten a lot of mileage out of them myself.
Centurus, you seem to have figured out the secret to building them, which is in separate sections that are merged together.

*takes bows* Thank you, thank you. Miles, the beauty part about having saved practically every step of making this is that I can change around the components if I want and make somerhing different. In fact, I'm thinking of doing that later on. But I've decided, when I remake the Resurrection, I'm gonna use this mesh. It's gonna push the poly count way over the limit, but this is my personal ship we're talking about. Anyone who moans about the poly count can suck my plasma exhaust. MUAHAHAHA!!!!
And WZ, yep. I took your warp engines and dissected them into 5 main components, and kinda started from there. Not sure if I did it the most efficient way, but you can't argue with results.
-
Fair enough
You know, you should come up with something that might look good as a bussard for this nacelle, and I can try and make it.
-
Lol..
if point go out for persistance you deserve $1 million.. you still doing having trouble with the sovvy nacelle. I find that weird because I have seen you make all sorts of hull shapes, I am not sure why you are not getting this down.
Tell you what, I will make a tut right now, in PDF format.. bear with me. ;)
-
I made a tut, vid... but its 980 meg... not sure what to do with that now, its crashes windows movie maker.. plays fine in VLC :(
-
980 Meg?!?
did you use camtasia?
-
Yes I did.. and im using XP Pro 64bit now.. any ideas
-
does not work with xp 64 :(
-
If you use camtasia, you can have it export right to youtube. The uploading process doesn't work, but it creates the Mp4 file anyways. That should cut down on some size. Also Don't use the full screen resolution.
-
Or, go a simple route. Use WinRAR to split the file into equal parts no larger than 100 megs, upload to 4shared.com, and then post the link. It takes time, but in my opinion, is much simpler, has fewer steps, and preserves video quality.
-
Ok, so now the tut is done it wont let me reopen in camtasia to upload to you tube.. winrar.. says archive damaged everytime, but good old media player and vlc play the video file fine.. so i have burnt it to dvd.. send me ur addy and i'll post it.
posting a tut lol... now i wish i did allot more.
-
Maybe I should f*ck up a Sovereign and Galaxy hull. That way I can get tuts for those as well. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
-
Lol.. ever since i installed xp pro 64 the law of physics of computers has changed... nothing wants to work properly but then it actually detects my 8GB ram :)
royal mail is the answer at the min, have allot of projects i wanna get on with. 8)

Ok.

the .zipx is the newest from winzip, you may need to dl the trial version to open.
Tut done, using 3ds max 2010 and photoshop CS2, will work on anything from MAX 6 upward and Photoshop 5.0 upward. Gmax if it has the connect tool should be fine also, if not then use the slice plain or the cut tool for those segments.
Using Camstadia the free version, codecs found on their webby, but it works fine on VLC and MPC :smitten:
This tut covers the general shape of the sovvy nacelle your having issues with.
I have attached a 3ds file (use as anyone wishes)
The ref and full schematic.
Good luck ;)
-
I hate WinZIP. Always messes up my system. I'll see what I can do though.
-
I use 7zip, much better than winzip or even winrar
-
I might try 7zip. Haven't used it yet.
Marky, the link you posted isn't responding.

Ok, link is working now and I'm downloading the file, but I won't be able to take a look at it for a few days. Tonight is the dance show at my college, and I'm working tech.

Follow spot light. I was supposed to work sound, but last week a few people in my tech class either dropped or something, and a last minute reshuffling was done with the assignments, and I was asked to work one of the follow spots. First show went almost without incident. Next 3 days gonna have afternoon and evening shows, and the weekend will be a little hectic.
